I have a GE stainless steel dishwasher which come with our new home March of 2019. Per the serial number the unit was made in October 2018.

Is it normal for the pump motor to have a high pitched whine while washing? It is about to drive my wife and I crazy!!! Had GE tech to come out and take a look at it. He said that all GE DW motors has the high pitch whining.

Is that true? Our home is the open concept with hardwood floors. While its washing and rinsing we hear can it. I wear hearing aids and it about makes my ears bleed.

The tech did however he found the outer insulation was missing from the machine and also missing in the toe kick plate that the builder left out. He is sending me some at N/C. Per the tech "it should fix your problem". I'm going to try the fix he suggested.

We had a Whirlpool middle of the line DW with a SS tub for a couple of years (2017~2019) at our previous home in GA and you could not tell it was running.

GE DW High Pitch Winning

Hi David, did the insulation GE sent you help ?

I had an upper end GE DW that would now be about 4 years old if it hadn't been crushed for scrap metal after about two years that drove me crazy with the noise the drain pump made as it cycled  on & off and on &. Off.

This DW also had a lot of other faults, terrible racks that were black that you could not see to load, openings so large in the lower rack that large items just fell through and would block the wash arm. In the upper rack items would not get  washed in the corners. and finally it started leaking badly under the door and nothing fixed it, hinges, gasket, door catch and finally the CRUSHER, LOL.

Spot on with the problems of this DW

Everything you described about this DW's problems is exactly what I'm talking about. I'm looking to replace it with a Bosch Accenta, Whirlpool or LG quad wash.

Thank John for your informative reply!!! The GE repair tech made me think it was all in my mind!!! GEEZ!!!

Stay well, may peace be with you!!!

High Pitched Noise

I don't think I could do that either. Certain noises bother me to death. Our old hot water heater would make a noise similar to that of a kettle getting up to temp that you could hear through out our first floor. That is one reason why we ended up replacing our old Whirlpool DW. It was just too loud with a majority of our flooring being hard. We even have an empty space where cabinitry should be next to our dishwasher that amplifies the noise quite a bit. Our Bosch just sounds like a very deep sounding fan on low speed while it is running. The Whirlpool GlobalWash is pretty quiet as well!

David, if you do replae the dishwasher and end up getting a Bosch, don't get an Asenta or Bosh 100, they have the ss tubs on 3 sides and a plastic type of material for the bottom.  the rivets holding the two different material together  don't do well with the different expansion/contracting of the two different material and leaks ensue.  I'd look at a 300 series if you want a Bosch.

Also, Nmassman44 will be replacing 3 year old LG Quad Wash with a Whirlpool  or Whirlpool-produced Kenmore after the LG started falling apart too.

Oh, the stainless is rivited

to the plastic tubs? Is that what "annealed" means to Bosch? FYI; My dad had an Asentia model Bosch. First the detergent dispenser stopped working then a trouble code for the circulation pump motor signaled it was bad. It was dead. Scrapped!

Bosch Asenta DWs

The tanks are not riveted together, the seam is crimped together and sealed, I have never seen a problem with the seam, I actually like the Asenta line better than the higher end models as it is easier to service and install because it is not all enclosed underneath.

Unless you have money to burn I would never spend more than $400-700 on a DW, the more expensive models have more problems and do not end up being kept as long because of high repair costs.

Also keep in mind that European DWs are smaller inside and they are 1/2" narrower so you have less capacity and it may not fill the space between your cabinets as well if you have a full 24" or slightly larger space.

Pictures of a Bosch built KM DW showing the smaller width as installed in a kitchen.

Dishwasher noise is fixed!!!

Conbo52,

The insulation came in this past Saturday!!! I installed the thick toe kick plate insulation first. I ran the long piece up the inside front part of the door per the instruction sheet. The remainder went behind the toe kick place. It was all one long piece.

The noise factor has decreased by at least 75%. Mostly soft noise that is barely noticeable.

I will pull out the entire DW later to install the tub insulation.

Once again thanks for the good advice and support!!!

Peace and good health!!!
