GE Filter Flo Mini Basket Wash

How does the basket fill with water? Will it wash with mini basket setting without the mini basket? any wash videos of a mini basket?

It's pretty simple. The recirculating water is shot into the filter-flo pan mounted on the agitator. The mini-basket also fits right onto the agitator so as the machine recirculates wash water it is filling the mini-basket. Machines have a "mini" setting on the water level switch. This basically fills the machine with just enough water to fill the mini-basket and recirculate (and maybe a little extra). Of course you can try it on higher water levels but that seems kind of pointless to me. I think the reason GE says not to wash clothes in the main tub while using the mini-basket may be due to possible damage to the clothing outside the mini-basket. It is not an "air-tight" fit so there are pockets and holes where garments could probably snag, etc.

While GE said not to do it, it worked fine if you used a little judgement. If you washed a load on the small setting in the outer tub, you could wash something more delicate in the mini basket in our V-12 with the small mini basket and the spiral ramp Activator. At least for ours, the instructions said to always use normal agitation with the mini basket so a regular small load ( labeled 1-6 lbs) would get cleaned OK. If you used a higher water levels (6-10 and 10-12), there was not much difference between them and with the higher water levels, there might have been a danger of the mini basket floating up and breaking. Maybe the bigger mini baskets extended too far down in to the tub to allow washing a small load in the regular tub. Some of the largest mini baskets even sat on the Activator's lower fins so that would completely nix the possibility of washing outside the mini basket when it was in use.

Re: 1970's Hotpoint Washers:

Had a unique set-up, to where they had a different kind of Wash System and a different Mini-Basket, that you could actually wash even 2-different kinds of Laundry and different Water Temps in both the main Tub and the Mini-Basket at the same time.

I know that someone has at least a Pix of these Washers and possibly even the matching Dryers as well. I don't remember for sure if someone also has an actual Washer or not, but it would sure be great to get to see either/both Pix's of the Ad with the Washer and explaination and/or a Pix of the actual Washer.

to V, an answer to your question

Yes you can wash on the mini water level setting without the basket in. You set the water level to mini, then leave the basket out. The washer does not knoe the difference, at least not back then. I do it a lot. I love it; it's like a calypso. Only use the spiral agitator though, keeps the clothes circling and works gently. Small loads of course. I have a pic but I can't find it now.

Also you can wash something in the main tub while you use the mini-basket; however there is not much water in the tub, but a lot of showering from the basket's overflow. I don't know if a really solied itme will get clean. I've only used it to freshen a beach towel or something like that. Here's a pic.
