GE Filter Flo problem...

A friend of mine has a 1992 MOL GE Filter flow that has bitten the dust Its really sad because its being replaced by a Samsung front load... I need to know how it can be fixed? The problem that it is having is that it is not unlocking and there is gear grease that appears has come from the clutch... Its locked like its agitating. Can it be saved or should it just be replaced?

Is the clothes basket locked? exactly what is locked? The grease is not a good sign.

The basket and agitator are locked. I filled the machine, the motor came on and would not agitate. It would not spin, but would drain. I pulled the back panel off and the belt spins but I fear the transmission may have bitten the dust...

Yes, The transmission is bad. If you look on Ebay, you may be able to find a transmission. I saw one a on there a few days ago. Also make sure the grease did not get into the clutch that sits on top of the motor.
