Hi everyone!

My friends has a 1976 BOL FF and it is starting to develop a problem with small black oil spots on the clothes infrequently. I remember a thread from long ago that mentioned the transmission oil leaking into the outer tub. Can anyone tell me if this is what they think it is and if so how difficult it is to fix it. She said that in30 yrs the machine has worked fine with a few small repairs - its been through the war (a chunk is cracked off of one of the agitator fins and the original FF is gone - but it still trudges along. I told her not to give it up and to just keep fixing it but the repair men these days would rather not deal. I am very handy and can do it myself if i had help - please let me knw what you're all thinking! Thanks!

Usually black round dots on clothing are a sign of a tranny seal leak. If you can get the agitator off, tip it upside down and look down the barrel and see if there are signs of oil around the spline. Most likely water is getting into the tranny and forcing oil out into the washtub, then onto the clothes. The only repair is a new or rebuilt tranny. If it's 30+ years old, it may be a struugle to get the agitator and inner tub out. Hope this helps! Email me if you want more info.
