Hello everybody. What is the history of the GE filter-flo machine? When did GE make the agitation go faster? What were the design changes? I'd like to know. Thank you.

here are a few filter flo mechanical changes as I recall having noticed over the years(just my recollection,might not be exactly correct 
1961-major revision to a perforated tub design,using dual section cast aluminum turbine type drain pump.
-~1965,pump changed to plastic housing.
-~1968,motor changed to non-servicable welded square style
-~1968, earlier counterweight changed to "cinderblock"style
-~1985,transmission case switched from cast aluminum to thick plastic.
- sometime around late'70s-mid '80s,timer went from a GE timer to another brand-perhaps eaton or Mallory.
The all-steel internals transmission is basicly reliable, but these trannys generate quite a bit of metallic particles(mostly from the brake band and helical spring one-way clutch)over several years of use and this debris packs around the input shaft seal causing it to leak.

Thank you very much. I could've sworn that GE filter-flos had round motors. I believe the agitation speed was increased. I also know that the later models were louder.

have noticed some filter flo have 1/3hp motors while others have 1/2hp-the one I saw a 1/2hp on had the straight vane agitator.there seems to be some inconsistency with filter flo era GE motors in how nice they run:some are good,some are quite nasty:running hot,loud hum,etc-not just in GE washers,but other brands using GE motors-including pre-1978 BD whirlpools(WP used only emerson motors'78 up)Another thing that can affect speed with a 2 spd filter flo is clutch pulley wear-the aluminum pulley groove on the 2 spd clutches wears rapidly if the belt gets loose and slips-reducing the diameter of the belt ride area.
