GE sink top washing machine
There was a wall box that was almost as big as the washing machine that you installed in a 2 x 4 wall directly behind the washer, and you plumbed the wall box to hot and cold water into a gravity drain, the drain from the sink went directly into the plumbing system through a typical P-trap, there was also a connection for the washing machine drain itself and the hot and cold water hoses for the washer, as well as an outlet provided that you wired in for the washing machine.
The matching dryer that is pictured at our museum was shorter than the washer. It was designed to have the countertop material above the dryer that you chose for this area of your home.
I imagine in most cases this was installed in a laundry room. It could also be installed in a bar or something in a basement. The machine we have was installed and in a bar setting in a basement in Northwest Washington DC
The one we have is the only one I've ever seen. It's neat that another one showed up I'm sure whoever thought this up at GE was probably fired even though the item worked fine. It must've cost a lot to build. An I doubt they sold very many the cost of development and manufacturing this Appliance probably were never recouped.
