GE gears

"The T model transmissions made absolutely no noise."
Are you sure? Mine did. You could hear the double knock and whirring of the gears grinding while agitation progressed. I can tell you that chetlaham would agree. I've had a GE that did that before.

ff apologist

If that makes me a filter-flo apologist and a gearhead, so be it. That GE filter-flo gear oil smells like a real industrial grade hardworking fluid to me. I don't care what anybody says. At least Whirlpool DD gear oil has that similar hardworking smell.

chetlaham...

I heard the suspension strap nocking the cabinet during agitation in 2004. Even my dad said he wouldn't buy any more GE! I didn't understand it at the time, but knowing what I know now years later I understand. And yes, I've heard the GE model T would blow all their oil everywhere.

Jerome. What you don’t understand about machines is that if you’re smelling gear oil there is a PROBLEM.
These are supposed to be sealed systems that fluids don’t leak from.
These smell of oil is only from LEAKS.

You two goobers, with smelly machines and tubs smacking cabinets, must have broken and abused machines.
You two just can’t accept that hundreds of thousands of other NORMAL customers over the years, got fine service from these washers.
It’s clear you hated them and treated them like shit.

Chet and Jerome this is a public Forum

About vintage laundry appliances, people come here to share stories about their vintage appliances to ask for advice on how to repair them, etc.

Can you imagine how ridiculous you look and sound talking about the sounds of gears which no automatic washer transmission ever had a noisy gearbox, and the smell of the oil that was used in it, which is really not possible to discern on a properly functioning machine.

Jerome, there’s a very real chance that somebody’s gonna haul you away as a lunatic and have you committedChet carefully tries to conceal his identity because he’s been bullied so much for his ridiculous beliefs and comments, but they can still find you.

Hopefully this site will get a moderator eventually and do away with this nonsense, you two have driven so many people away, who with other wise interact here.

abusive to model t GE's

I've never been abusive to model T ge's yet they felt cheap. I bet they didn't last in any laundromat. I've seen one in a college dorm and it sounded cheap. Mine was the upscale version with the cycle indicator lights, push to start button, and dual-action agitator. While it did do the job, it in no way compared to the filter-flo before it.

tiny transmissions

These tiny transmissions with that little oil doesn't do much. I prefer a big transmission with a lot of oil to keep everything lubricated. I want it with really good quality too! It's a shame that GE didn't do any oil quality checks or leak testing in these puny transmissions. So much for them putting a steel/iron counterweight on them.

You’re absolutely right Jerome they didn’t do any testing whatsoever. They just threw the thing together and started selling it. It’s amazing how many millions of these machines they sold and they cleaned laundry for years and people never noticed, lol.

I can think of several customers that got one of these after their old filter flow gave up and just loved the thing they loved the fact that it didn’t vibrate and it spun the clothes so nicely as well as getting them nice and clean. I guess they fooled everybody. In fact, you’re absolutely the only person I’ve ever known that thought this machine did not perform well. Yes, it had its own unique sounds and it did have durability issues eventually but we still run into some of these machines that are well over 20 years and almost 30 years old that are still working and I’ve only had minimal repairs.

I guess this is part of your handicap by not being able to see things. I certainly wouldn’t want you doing my laundry if you’re only evaluating it from a sound and smell of the transmission, oil perspective.

John, it is ironic that you can identify what bullying looks like yet in the same breath you bully others without flinching.

Jerome's hearing, taste, touch, and smell is very heightened beyond that of the average person so it is possible he is perceiving something others can't. There is also the possibility of inadvertent misinterpretation of those heightened senses as there are little visual cues to guide them.

Whirlpool gear cases do indeed have weep holes in them, so its not out of the realm of possible. In the way pets can see and smell things people can't.

I'm not going to address the rest of your post.

Chet and Jerome

“This whole thread, what you’ve said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I’ve ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.”

stupid

So how is this post stupid based on Chet and my experience? My GE model T did get clothes clean but it felt cheap and sounded that way too. It's time to wake up and smell the roses. I've seen more complaints on these after the filter-flo.
What does that tell you?

Not siding with anyone, but sometimes you have to put certain things to rest and live in the present. I remember when I first joined the forum years ago, would comment on quite a few threads regarding the Maytag HOH’s, a few from the archives. Then began to realize it was beginning to annoy certain people on the site, decided it was time to move on and entertain discussions about other brands like Whirlpool etc. Now if I do bring up anything about the Maytag HOH’s, usually about tweaks and modifications I’ve done.

Just sharing my experience with being on the forum for the past 7, going on 8 years.

John doesn’t hold a grudge against anyone, even though there are some things we don’t necessarily agree on, usually put the differences aside, move on. John from what I can imagine is reluctant to block or snooze anyone on the site, but probably just needs a break from the repetitive-ness since he is quite busy from what I can imagine behind the scenes, doesn’t want to miss out on a acquisition or question about something. John simply wants to help, even if it’s behind a screen and not in person where he can diagnose and fix the issue.

To prevent myself into getting into heated conversations, going to exclusively post in the Imperial forum index, going to very rarely post in the Deluxe, Super, Shoppers Square forum indexes. Just looking out for myself. Not worth investing time and energy arguing behind a screen and not getting anywhere.
