GE SPACEMAKER Not Hot water

Hello Everyone,
Husband and I decided to escape NYC cold and move to his family beach house in GA.
The house has a new GE Spacemaker Laundry center (GUD27ESSMWW).
OK, horrible machine but we can't say much as its technically not our own property but his mother's.

Shocking experience when you switch from a Miele w3035 to a machine like this. Plastic Tub, lots of noise, will make holes on your clothes if you fill more than 1/3 of the tub. But lately I found something annoying.
I start a load of white towels and I used Heavy Cotton HOT.
I hit start, I touch the running water to make sure its hot , add detergent and start adding towels. Once I closed the lid I heard like a click sound and the filling noise changed.
Once I open the lid, here we go again. same noise.
I let the machine fill and run. Meanwhile I found a pair of white socks and I decided to add them to the load.
On my suprise the water in the tub was COLD. Really Cold cold. Not warm.
I set it to spin and run it again. Same story. Once I close the lid, clicking sound.
I decided to bypass the lid switch with a magnet and then it was there. Once I put the magnet the damn washer switched from HOT to pure COLD!
are they nuts? this is a joke right? its a brand new machine!
Is this a known partice ? or just my machine is acting funky?

Normal operation.  Water temperatures are restricted on many/most newer washers, even the Hot settings.  A Heavy soil setting typically will run a higher temperature but that's not a given, every machine is different.  The user manual says that some of the cycles fill and agitate in steps as the cycle progresses, could be some of the early filling is hotter or warmer water and it finishes with cold water as the wash process proceeds along.

If the machine fills with full-hot with the lid open (which it may or may not continue for the duration of the required fill level), then perhaps try leaving the lid open for a while to get more hot water into the mix.

You can select the Deep Rinse option even if not using fabric softener, otherwise it probably runs a shower/spin-spray rinse instead of a filled/agitated rinse.

However, and just to say, you should load all the clothes before starting a cycle so the load sensing process can work properly ... which it possibily won't do with the lid open since load sensing involves spinning the load.  Manually selecting a water level instead of Precise Fill may or may not involve load sensing.

Auto Fill works only when you select the Auto Fill water level.
In this case the lid locks and the tub is spinning while filling. (horrible option too. Never worked. I end up with low water level and again most of our tshirts got nice holes on them)

I was ready to take it out and replace with with any kind of a Front loader but mother in law doesn't like front loaders due to the fact "They dont use enough water to clean"

Hi John, Be sure the hot and cold water hoses are hooked correctly, they may be backwards, what does the washer fill with on tap cold ?

 

Many newer machines spray cold water at first till the lid locks, then go to correct temp, I never saw one that sprayed hot at first.

 

But overall you are correct these are terrible washers, however the dryer is faster and bigger than your Miele.
