GE Stand Mixer

At the flea market today I found a GE stand/hand mixer that I believe to be of the 1970s. It's all white plastic and has a big handle and a small knob on the body of the mixer with 12 speeds. It came with two white glass bowls and beaters. The turntable is adjustable for the bowl size by placing it into either of two holes, kind of like the later Sunbeam Mixmaster classics were.

What sold me on it was it still had the GE hang tag attached to the cord and the cord wrap. I don't know if I did bad or not for $12. I have read on here in the past that these were not great mixers, not very powerful but I figured since it was nearly complete why not.

I can tell it doesn't have the details like my Sunbeam Mixmaster has, it doesn't have the drive button on the beater to spin the bowl or the bowl fit beater design.

Speaking of which, there was also a Mixmaster at the flea market for $25, it was just like mine but in white. It had both bowls and the beaters and dough hooks, tempting but I don't need two Mixmasters. I do still need a small bowl for mine though.

It sounds like it could be a late 60s/early 70s model for sure.  GE mixers were OK but the speed controls went bad quickly on them and they are not particularly easy to repair.  In the late 70s, GE made a model that claimed to be more powerful and although I am not 100% sure, I think this model had a beater with a speed-control button on it to help propel the bowl.

Was introduced in the early 60s I have several. Erosions of it it replaced the one with the sliding speed control on the front they were good but require more bowl scraping than a sunbeam the chrome one pictured was a 70s and 80s model also pretty good but again not as durable as a sunbeam I have several of them also

Quiet Mixers

These GE mixers that you all describe are among the quietest mixers I have ever used. I suspect the plastic motor housing is partially responsible. Also the motors are not very large. Yet GE portables are among the loudest mixers, especially their governor controlled 10 speed M 68

Thanks for the information, all. I haven't tried it but nice to hear it is quiet and maybe not as bad as I was expecting. I've seen some of the portable GEs pop up in thrift store. One store seems to always get them in avocado. The last one I saw was in white at Goodwill and had the milkshake attachment also.
