The poor dear hasn't been cooling as well as she used to, so I was thinking maybe I would have it recharged, but I don't know where one would hook up the recharging thingy (if you'll pardon my extreme technical speak)

Does anyone know where the recharge valve is on these beasts?

Most old fridges had taps right on them. But you can always cut the line, put in a valve, solder it (carefully, don't expose the coolant to heat) and charge it. Of course this will not solve the problem if there is a leak, but low coolant makes your compressor work like a dog. I might know someone who has accesss to freon too. Although I would never advise anyone to break the law when it comes to freon. Silly Government laws must be upheld!

It has to be somewhere in that access hatch on the top right hand side of the fridge (hidden by a panel usually). I have the installation book at home at the moment; I'll have a look tonight and see if there may be any hints in there.
