Hello everybody. What are the differences between the GE filter-flo and the GE post filter-flo gearboxes? From what I understand, it sounds very similar to a whirlpool directdrive. I understand the pulleys will go clockwise for agitation and counterclockwise for spin. Do the GE post filter-flo washers use the same type of gear oil as they did in their filter-flos or a different type. I know that they're different. Pleas explain. Thanks.

As for the GE post filter-flo transmissions (1995-2006), they are much different than Whirlpool direct drives. Yes, one direction is for agitation and the opposite direction is for spin but with the GE transmission, the entire transmission is rotated, no internal gears are used, for spin. In DD's, the transmission is fixed and internal gearing is used for both agitation and spin.

I recently opened
up and disassembled the transmission from a 1995 GE that I got for free. It worked but the lower shaft wanted to slide down out of the transmission. Found the snap ring that retains the shaft had either broken or just come off. I made a gasket from 1/8" cork to replace the original silicone and refilled with 8 ounces of gear 90. Seems to be working fine.

Do today's GE washers use gear oil like the filter-flos? I know that the filter-flos do. I have a 2000 model and I'm curious. I know that the gears and gearbox are all metal. Also, have you noticed that the GE post filter-flo washer motors have a high pitched whine? I have.
