Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

You're not supposed to place them directly on the electric range element. They came with a bent wire shaped somewhat like the outline of an "X" to space the glass from the element. I lost mine once and made another out of a coat hanger suitable bent. No idea what happens if you don't follow this rule.

I think it can break, but apparently it's not necessarily imminent as I used my Pyrex "bareback" before I knew I wasn't supposed to. After that, I ordered some of those wire thingys from an obscure online hardware store.

An electric element

is intense heat, not modified heat like a gas burner.

Plus, the directness of it. The difference between a stove element and a drip coffee machine's warming element, is that the machine's elment is not supposed to get over around 200F (often don't get that high.)

You may not have breakage immediately by not using the wire spacer, but it will happen eventually, and it will be spectacularly frightening.
