Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Anybody closely looked at the tines in the bottom rack?  The way they're arranged (in a circular pattern) would lead me to believe it's an impeller dishwasher.  What do y'all think?  I cannot see a wash arm.  Now, one of my two best friends from high school, they were renting a house from like 1970 (or sooner) through 1977 or so.  They had a kitchen with Caloric gas cooktop and wall oven (think those on the dick Van Dyke show) and a Hotpoint that looked exactly like that one on the outside.  But, it was a spray arm machine--hence the bottom rack I worked with was much different looking.  In fact, it reminded me of the late 1960s Hotpoint dishwasher I had in my first college apartment in fall of 1974, but my friend's house didn't have the upper rack 2nd wash level.

I blew up the photo a bit, looks like there is a wide flat wash arm in there. The circular tines do make it seem like it could be an impeller machine.

Phil, thank you oh so very much for enlargening the photo.  Yep, my friend's definitely had a heavy iron-looking spray arm.

60s HP DW

The tines are not in a circular pattern, but rather all bent up, This DW certainly does not look like it was never used, in fact it looks pretty tired.

These were interesting DWs, they shared nothing with their parent company GE and while they did have the potential to wash pretty well the reliability and build quality was as bad as D&Ms DWs.

We repaired lots of these back in the 70s but few survived far into the 80s, they had pump and motor problems, and lots of leaking problems from door seals and rust problems in the sump where the motor-pump was mounted, in fact a lot of pump and motor assemblies fell loose from the tank when the tank flange rusted, GE-HP had a Stainless Steel flange kit that we would epoxy in place to save the machine for a few more years.

MY HOTPOINT DW.....

LOOKS JUST LIKE THAT, EXCEPT MINE HAS AN
IMPELLER --1963. Got it from the Original
estate, with matching 63 Observador Oven,
Ultramatic Stove top, hood, GE Fridge over
Freezer, and Kitchen sink -- ALL Turquoise.

Great Finds. Hope someone grabs them.
