I'm trying to make a desicion about buying an 2002 Infinity G20. 89k miles, looks and drives good, fully loaded with all the bells and gadgets, leather seats and sun roof, new tires. It appears the car has been well taken care of....The price of the car is 7995...I checked Kelly Blue Book and that appears to be in line..I'm embarasses to admit this but I haven't purchased a car since 1997..I bought a Nissan XE p/u. I've taken good care of the old girl and she's now at 196k miles...as much as I love her there comes a point when one starts spending good money after bad..and I think I'm getting to that point. I want to keep my truck..but I'd like a newer car for work when I have to travle with my job. I've head good things about the Infinity and I've also heard bad..one thing being the maintainence will eat one alive. The price of the car is 7995. I've also looked at a 07 Nissan sentra...it had 29k miles and they wanted 9500.00 I know it's newer and that's probalby the better option..but...it's got got dark, dark tinted windows, black interior, and a spoiler on the back..and it has a funky smell...I think if I were 25 rather than on the downhill side to 50 I might like it better. I'd really like the Infinity..I just dont know much about them...you all have guided me though several purchases and never streed me wrong...forum thoughts would be forever appreciated!!!!!!thanks/mark

Take

two something, a STRONG Vodga, clean your windows, wipe your a** and drive off a cliff.

And you will feel better.

And be sure to give your doctor a call dear.

I hope you feel better in the morning.

And what was all that about??????

I need to go back to my gardens and forget checking in on this site. The things one finds here.........

If you like it

and it fits your needs buy it. And good luck there washerboy. I am surprised a boy from arkasas has that much trouble makin' up his mind. I thought you boys knew better. Good luck there.

I have a 2001 I30t. It rides and handles nicely, but I probably wouldn't do another. The driver-side leather hasn't held up well ... although I suppose that can be excused to a point being that the car is 8 years old. Replacing one of the xenon headlights and an oxygen sensor was very expensive. The alternator was replaced a couple years ago. The check engine light has been on/off/on/off again for months, I've been ignoring it. I discovered recently that the sunroof now won't open (which doesn't matter as I rarely use it).

My experience

has been, the more loaded the car is with extras, the more it costs to fix the normal stuff. The fact that you are hesitant should, maybe, tell you something?

What do the various owners' sites have to say? How many recalls were there and were they all carried out?

Was the car ever in a wreck? Services like carfax are worth looking into, we all know some cars are just plain good (my Malibu), some are horrible (my brother's Malibu) although otherwise identical...but safety concerns can and are always valid.

If you're really serious, the $$$ for a mechanic you trust to luck at it is worth it. Then you'll know.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

The Sentra is likely to cost less to run than the Infiniti. It appears that you're limiting yourself to not just two models but to two actual cars. Why? There are lots of cars for sale out there. I would certainly not buy a car with a "funky smell" and a spoiler I disliked.

Nissan makes good cars but so do lots of other companies. Toyota and Honda usually have slightly better reliability. Mazda is probably the equal of Nissan. Hyundai used to be laughed at, but has improved considerably in the past 10 years and the resale is still far below Nissan, Honda, and Toyota. Don't forget Ford and GM too. They're not as consistent as the Japanese so you need to check data for individual models, but as with Hyundai the resale is less so you can get more car for your money.

$8,000-$10,000 will buy a lot of good used cars, so get online and check out what is available in your area.

When in the US,

I buy Chevy or Cadillac because GM supports gay rights and has had the guts to stand up to the christianists.

That said, if reliability were my #1 concern, I wouldn't buy GM, Ford or Chrysler product under any circumstances.

For reliability, buy a Toyota.

Thanks!

Thanks rp2813, DADoEs, panthera and hydralique!!! I appreciate your comments. DADoEs comment was relly what I was expecting and I think the Infinity was/is probably at that point where expensive problems are going to start. I went by the Toyato and Honda dealers yesterday and going to drop by Hyundai dealer this afternoon. Thanks!!!

buy a Ford

They are very reliable, and the maintenance is cheaper than GM or any of the rest, plus you will be keeping an American in his job. Don

I agree with Don. Let's keep in mind that we're indirectly cutting our own throats when we buy products made by foreign companies. Sure, often times, they have manufacturing operations here, but the profits don't stay in the United States and these firms do little or nothing to alleviate the tax burden the rest of us are stuck with.

The "Buy American" movement is picking up steam and is the only way to regain our prosperity as a nation. Let's help put people back to work in jobs that matter--jobs that provide value--not more dead-end service jobs that wouldn't exist anyway if it weren't for the manufacturing sector of our economy.
