some kind of

Some kind of press for hamburgers or or waffles. Kinda like a predecessor to a George Forman. Looks like it can cook on both sides.

Alright, enough torture!

Here it is! I picked this up at an estate sale for $5.00. It was in a grody old tv cabinet. At first, I thought it was a reel to reel. Now *you* know what it is!

GEEEEEZZZZ

Whodathunkit. A record player. But you said "appliance buffs", not "music lovers" or "electronics buffs".

Well, very nice for a small phono. Those hold their own even with having a cheesy sound. Most of those little players have an Astatic crystal cartridge installed and if working right, they can really sing! The sound is very high pitched and tinny but it will play those oldies just fine.

"Oh the shark bites, with such teeth, babe"

Is that record on the Atlantic label?

Mack is back in town!

Jason:

ATCO; you bet dude! Love that *mono* sound! It plays great and sounds...you know...tinny! It's got a metal case...almost a "Close and Play" for grown-ups (who, me?)!

It's a good thing I didn't broil a steak on it! LOL

Venus :-)

Lo-Fi is fun too!

Close'n'Plays were the ultimate lo-fi. It was basically a sapphire stylus connected to a plastic speaker cone. Yes, that was the amplifier. Luckily, yours is electronic and a little bit better. Still lo-fi but that's what most people had back in the 50s. Unless you were rich and had a console.

I'd be playing some Bubblegum pop on that player, like Ohio Express, 1910 Fruitgum, Partridge Family, Bobby Sherman, Tommy Roe, etc. Those little 7" Disney storybook records are fun to listen to on a small record player.

"You'll know it's time to turn the page when Tinkerbell plays her chimes like this..."

Cool bargain find Retromom!Im an old bargain hunter and I`d rather find a bargain than eat!

YES PLEASE DO!!!

Bring it and some oldie 45s so we can twist while we wash!

That would be so fun.

"This is you, this pillow that I'm kissin' and huggin'."

ATCO

was a division of Atlantic Records.

I see you got the deluxe flipover stylus so 78's could be played with the correct stylus. I got a Sears Silvertone record player for my birthday in 1959 and it had a "All Groove" stylus they claimed could play 33/45's and 78's. Now I realize it was probably a 1 1/2 mil "compromise" stylus between the 1 mil 33/45 and 3 mil 78 sytlus and was damaging to both types of records.

Dizzy

Ya gotta admire a song that uses the word "Spin" and "Whirlpool" in the same chorus.

"I'm so dizzy my head is spinnin
Like a WHIRLPOOL it never ends
And it's you girl, makin it spin"
