Mark, do you still have your B&O tt and a B&O receiver? I'm not quite sure what the 8000 series is..were they the ones in teak wood with the soft touch buttons. I always dreamed of having a system like that, had the teak bedroom set from Sweden, couldn't swing for the B&O. There's a B&O store downtown here and it's even further off my map now unless I sold a lung or something lol.

Still have it

Hi Peter! Still have that B&O system. I bought it right out of college in 1979. It had the light touch buttons, teak wood trim, and remote control. Very Scan-Design! Bought it for the stats and not the looks. In the late '80's I added a cd player but never did use it much. When the new home is built, I am going to use the B&O system as the main house stereo with built in speakers in each room using their Beo-Link system. My AV man here in Roanoke is having lots of fun getting all the goodies to make this thing work. The Tuner, turntable, and cd player will be in the kitchen pantry, with remotes in each room of the house for volume and mode control. Mark

Well if you're gonna hide it..send it to me, I'll feature it prominently and send you a just as good sounding old JVC to put in your pantry. LOL
You have to post a pic of it, TT & receiver...some of the young uns on here have probably never seen one.
Funny you don't care for CD's...I'm the exact opposite, my taste centers around jazz and classical masters but my LP collection was fairly limited because I just hated to spend money on pricey classical sets, albums and then hear them downgrade after a few plays..drove me crazy.
Maria Callas, I'm assuming you listen to opera then. If you really want to hear a supreme recording I kid you not...get a copy of Emma Kirkby singing Mozarts Exultate Jubilatae, on the L'osieau Lyre label. Don't get the Kiri Takanawa <sp> version, it's terrible in comparison.

Ceramic and other cartridges-The parts that suffer from age and -disuse-are the rubber or synthetic rubber cantilever supports used to support the cantilever(part that holds the stylus and transfers the energy of the record groove to the ceeramic or magnetic transducer in the cartridge)If the supports are dried out from age or stiff from disuse-the cartridge will sound bad-Ie distortion-esp on music peaks. If the cartridge has a replaceable stylus assembly-replacing it can correct the problem-if not the supports or eelement in the cartridge is bad and you will need to replace the whole cartridge.
in terms of sound quality-the old Magnavox console Hi-Fi-stereos were hard to beat-I miss the one my Mom had-she bought it around 1964.It was a "Concert Grand" model-had that on a large brass nameplate on the front of the machine above the tuner-preamp.She even misses it and regrets giving the unit to Salvation Army after she bought a new system. She didn't have enough room for it-I wanted to give the Maggie a home.Had sentimental value to me.Worked on it many times-and knew well how it worked.Esp loved the "Biamp" system in it.the power amps for each channel had an electronic crossover on the input of the power amp-the signals from that fed to the power amp sectionsA push-pull 6V6 stage for the Jensen horn tweeter-and a push-pull parallel 6V6 amp section that had 4 6V6's in it-could put out some respectable levels. The woofers were 15" Jensens-At the time Jensen and Magnavox were owned by the same company. Those same speakers also appeared in some Leslie musical instrument amp-speakers.Worked on one.In the last years of my mothers Magnavox-installed a CD player in its "aux" inputs-she then used the CD machine more than the Maggies TT.I would play the records when I visited.
