After reading ChesterMike’s post about the celebration of 60 years of the Hoovermatic in Malmesbury
http://www.automaticwasher.org/cgi-bin/TD/TD-VIEWTHREAD.cgi?72312_27,
I thought I’d post these pictures of my 1979 T5024. Despite being mechanically perfect, it had fairly severe paint damage. As I have two of them I thought I’d have it repainted in a suitable paint colour of the time of manufacture to honour the 60th anniversary. As orange and brown were the key design elements of the machine and a very 1970s combination, I had the paint matched with a spectrometer to the orange details of the machine. It’s definitely not one for the purists, but is a definite nod to Mike’s oft said comment of Hoover not being afraid of colour! Affectionately called ‘Clockwork Orange’, it is still used regularly and stands as a (definitely unique) salute to 60 years of the Hoovermatic and indeed to Hoover as the proud company it once was.
