Make and utensil holder question

Was this a Maytag manufactured dishwasher or were these D&M and was it a BOL?

And would that utensil holder be moveable or stationery to the top?

Phil

I do believe this is a Maytag Reverse Rack.  Plates and silver on the top rack, glassware on the lower rack.

I can't explain why they chose this configuration or how well it works.  Others here will be able to comment.

WU400 direct drive Maytag.  More than likely from 1970ish to 1974.  Nothing D&M about these - these are 100% percent pure Newton, Iowa!  This 400 series is the MOL model with the all pushbutton 600 as the TOL, and I believe there was a 200 series machine with no push buttons.

Parts for these early direct drive machines are tough to come by, but they are quieter than the later belt-drive models.

Lawrence - thank you, this means that top rack can be shuttled/used below, then(?)is what you mean(?)

Ben - you are scary informative. :-) Maytags don't show up too much like this, at least around CL pages, but
they do show up…so I can believe parts are not so common as the Kitchenaids.

Thank you!

It is a reverse rack. The silverware basket only fits in the top but it is removeable. I had a later model and it worked very well....it would get every pot casserole dish clean...it didn't matter if it was in the top or bottom rack. The machines were noisy but the cycles were quick compared to today's machines.

No, the racks themselves were not reversible.  The machine gets its name from reversing the normal rack positions (plates below, glasses above).  The "plate" rack must always take the top position (although it might be removable - I am not the one to know), the "glass" rack must always take the lower position.

Well, so much for my first idea…would make sense to have a dw modifiable so one could move the dish rack up or down to achieve whatever one wants to clean and how. I'm not so well versed in the architectures currently out there, so maybe that's something that exists or existed in other machines. I never liked the fixed configurations of glasses up/dishes down. But if it gets your dishes and pots and pans clean, this is like dreaming of irrelevant versatility, maybe.

Thanks guys.

Another one -Maytag Portable Dishwasher - $100 (Uptown Harri

looking for Kitchenaid portables…stumbled on a portable

"this is a Maytag dishwasher on caster wheels. Great for an apartment or house without a dishwasher. Has wood top which acts as additional counter space. Simply wheel it to the sink, attach the retractable hose to the faucet, plug the cord into an outlet and you're in business!"
