With their collection, I mean! :-)

What I'd love to know is if anyone here is SO committed to vintage stuff that they have all-vintage appliances, with NO present-day appliances as back-up or fill-ins.

If you have a complete set of vintage majors, where you depend on them every day just as you would new ones, I'd love to hear more. What do you have? What are your strategies for keeping it all going? Any war stories? And- WHY did you decide to go the vintage route?

Thanks in advance!

I Guess You Wouldn't Say I've Gone All The Way

Pretty darn close though. Here are my daily driver W/D. From Greg Nunn and fully functional some 40 years later. They just don't make 'em like this anymore. Love those lights!

Nearly!

Hi well nearly. My only auto washer is my 1966 Bendix combo, my oven is a 1961 New world 44, my fridge a 1950's GEC, dishwasher is 1976 ish Bendix (oldest i can find in uk) i have several vacs as the moment a light green Hoover Constellation, and little appliances like Kenwood Food mixer , Kenwood blender both form the 50's. All these sit in my kitchen which has original 1959 cabinets. The only modern things are a retro repro morphy richards toaster and el cheapo microwave ( as not managed to find anyone with an old one!) I still want blue formica worktops to replace the cheap white ones i have to use.

While I do have a couple of small electrics, and I do have one modern washer/dryer set for Neal to use which I rarely bother with, otherwise our house is entirely vintage.

All vintage here. Nothing modern at all. Am very pleased with the quality, look, and workmanship of the vintage appliances. Check my profile to see what I am using.

Any idea what vintage piece might replace the "retro" coffee grinders sold nowadays? That seems to be the only piece of the puzzle when I finish building my place.... All else authentic. Cory

Ricky, your place looks very authentique. Noticed you have a Sunbeam mixmaster on the fridge, is that 110 or 220v? The Kenwood, that's an A900 isn't it. I have one in pale yellow with quite a few of the attachments, still works like a charm.

All the way

In 1996, we moved to an old farmhouse that had been updated in the 50's with a Youngstown Kitchen. I decided to go total retro. I had a 40 inch range, a small rounded fridge with the small cube shaped freezer inside the fridge. I found one of the first Hobart, by Kitchenaid, portable dishwashers which was roundish shaped and had the blue wash arm. Any appliance made after the mid 50's was banished to the pantry where the big modern fridge lurked.
One evening, as I was driving home (108 miles) my wife called and screamed into the phone, "Where's the G** D%%m food processor! I'm just trying to make a pizza and you make me crazy!" My wife never had much emotion about appliances but I later "updated" and got a Flair and a matching Custom Imperial refrigerator with the freezer on the bottom. My wife was actually happy! She looked inside the fridge, big, beautiful with lights, nooks and shelves everywhere and said, "This is the happiest day of my life, I feel just like June Cleavor".
