The title kind of says it all. The blades move when it is turned on, but it won't cut a thing. I'm thinking the blades don't move enough? But generally I'm clueless. Ideas.

It's not particularly valuable, but I hate to trash it.

Thanks,
Sarah

Marriage is compromise

I'd pass on the electric knife, but DH likes to use one for filleting fish and cutting turkey & ham.

I will most definitely seek an American made one. Alas, John, I don't think we can recycle the motor here. Will recycle the blades though.

I Love My Electric Knifes

When I am carving Turkeys Etc, It makes it a lot easier to carve it nicely, [ and less dangerous for any guest nearby, LOL ]

As to recycling the old motor part just throw it in an old DW, Washer, Dryer etc destined for the scrap-recycling pile, the metal in the motor, copper in the cord should never be just put in a land fill.

I *think* I have an electric knife somewhere around here. Might have got it 20 years ago. Never use it. I'm in the "keep the cutting knives razor sharp" crowd.

As I recall, my electric knife came in a little plastic box. Damned if I know where it is. Perhaps shoved into the back of a cabinet or kitchen drawer.

PS-I have read that electric knives do have a good use: cutting foam rubber into various shapes.

I've got a GE that has to be 50+ years old and still cuts fine.  Came with 2 sets of blades. short and long.  I  use it occasionally, for Thanksgiving I use it to cube up the bread for stuffing prior too toasting it in the oven.

If you can find a vintage GE set grab it.

Hi Sarah

Here's a YouTube video (there are several) on how to
sharpen the serrated blades on an electric knife.
They post a link to order the special tool called a
Blocksharpener, not sure the cost, but it ships free.

I am not affiliated with this company, nor promote
its products (my disclaimer, LOL).
