heads up! Maytag 2 speed Ironer

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

When ironers were tested by the two testing magazines in the US, it was said that other than maybe using the slow speed while learning to use the ironer, there was little to be gained from buying a two speed model.

Two Speeds

One, would love to see that issue of CR!

Two, having two speeds does come in handy, IMHO. Say this as one who owns three ironers two having multiple speeds (Pfaff and Frigidaire) and the lone Ironrite having one. The Pfaff actually has three speeds and is a treat to use.

Being able to use a slower roller speed is a bone when the textiles being ironed are heavy and or very damp (which linen requires). A slow speed is also good when doing multiple layers such as flatwork folded to fit the width of the roller. The decrease in speed not only allows for easier feeding but ensures all layers are properly ironed dry.

If this cannot be done you have to send things through the machine again and again, that wastes time.

Or, on the Ironrite, you can give the pause paddle a little knee action and stop the roller periodically to bake out the moisture from heavy seams. Ironrite advocates that proper moisture content and proper temperature setting combined with the pressure of the shoe against the roll should iron items dry by the time all areas of the item are pressed at the machine's roller speed. Ironrite also states that a dampened item is not completely ironed until it is completely dry.
