Hello All,

I am a new member and somewhat rekindling my interest in laundry appliances. When I was much younger , I had somewhat of a fascination with wringer washers .. Ha kind of funny thinking back on it!

I would love to have the opportunity to meet another collector and maybe see a larger "local/area" collection. Love the Aberdeen farm pictures ... wish there was a mecca like that close to me! I live in Michigan and am open to travel when time allows.

I am especially interested in vintage washer/ dryers from the 50's and 60's (mainly Whirlpool and /or Kenmore) ... sudsavers/ sudsmisers are a PLUS!!! I have to admit, the Norge Timeline is pretty cool too.

Thanks in advance for any kind replies,

Here are a few more photos to welcome you! First my 1959 and 1969 Lady Kenmore washer/dryer Combos!

When I first found this site...

It was sometime in the early 2000's when I first saw this site. I thought "OMG there are others out there just like me". Many of us are in the the same age bracket it seemed and had a passion for washing machines and vintage appliances. It was uncanny. Up to that point I thought I was an odd-ball. Then after seeing many basements converted to laundry studios, labs and show-places I thought "I <span style="font-size: large; text-decoration: underline;">can</span> do that"? "<span style="font-size: large;">Really</span>"? And in 2006 the process began.

For the love of washing machines

Hi Michael, I can so relate to what you are saying. From my earliest memory I loved washing machines and vacuum cleaners and dishwashers. My mum was quite concerned about my fascination with domestic appliances. I thought I was the only one who was so in to washing machines and was quite embarrassed about it. I am currently converting our basement in to a big old laundry room, slowly getting there. My collection is fairly small, only 7 washers but I love them all. I recently disclosed my hobbie to some work colleagues, of course they think I am crazy and have no understanding. My partner too, he also thinks I am a little unhinged and gets panic attacks when I go on to eBay incase I start bidding on another "old piece of junk".

This site is just the best. So good to meet like minded people. I am renovating an old GE Filter Flo washer. The advice and support I have been given by other members is just fantastic. My partner refers to this site as washing machine porn!

Thanks all!

Thanks for all the notes and pictures today guys.
I have been looking at the collection pictures that are posted ... and I am pretty amazed at the variety and depth of what is saved, preserved and restored out there. Several of you have the exact machines that I think are cool as heck .. I'm pretty envious. =) I need to start looking for my first vintage automatic! Maybe I can find a nice feild of washers someplace ...hehehehe.

Welcome!

It seems everyone has the same story,it started when we were children. You will really enjoy the pic of the day and probably the vacuum site also.Welcome! Whirlaway. Bobby from Hampton Va.

Welcome to aw.o

Lots of friends here, everyone's welcome who plays nice.

I always had a washer fascination my whole life.

Finally found satisfaction in my later years selling them at The Home Depot. My job is mostly like going to Disneyland every day!

You've found a great place.

Scott,

Welcome! Also a Michigander, live in Lansing, but spend most warm weekends over near Saugatuck. Fantastic collections! No old washers YET, but have an old 50's elec. stove (green!) in our basement as well as late 60's early 70's side by side fridge. Both still work GREAT!

Electronicontrl, LOVE your collection of both wringers and automatics! As a kid near Detroit, we shared a two flat with my paternal grandparents. My Mom's shiny new early 60's Kenmore sat beside Grandma's wringer. Grandma refused to use the new-fangled automatic; was CERTAIN it would not clean as well as the wringer. Both had lived rural lives up on Beaver Island, MI and life in the burbs was a bit foreign to both. My Mom was only TOO anxious to embrace the conveniences the 50's and 60's brought while Grandma preferred to do things the traditional way. So, those machines sat side by side for years.

Thanks for posting the pics of your collection, Electronicontrl, brought back some good memories!

Duane
