Hello Persil - Goodbye Non-HE Detergents

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Did a massive loads of mixed whites in the Miele earlier using Persil Sensitive, and am that well chuffed with the results. So much so will be passing along the boxes of Tide with Bleach and Tide Coldwater to family members with top loading washing machines.

Had noticed for a few weeks now that even with 1/4 cup or more of TWB, my whites were turning dingy/tattle-tale gray. Higher wash temps (160F or more), didn't help, nor adding some STPP. Have come to the conclusion that TWB and other non-HE detergents are not up to the long wash cycles that my Miele has for cottons or PP. Persil removes soils/stains and keeps them away all during the very long wash cycle, am guessing normal Tide is geared towards the rather short wash cycle times of American top and in some cases front loaders.

Also noticed that with towels and other foam causing textiles, even if there was an absence of foam in the wash, during the spins so much froth would be wrung out, it would cause the washer to slow down. Sometimes there was so much froth the washer never would reach it's highest spin speed between rinses, this would lead to poor rinse results. With Persil, not only did one hear the laundry slapping about during the wash cycle, there was only a moment of slowing down during the first spin, which is natural as towels do hold allot of water. After that, the machine carried on as normal.

Have enough Persil to see me through the duration, and will keep my eyes peeled for more good deals as well. Also have in my stash some European commercial laundry detergent for colours, so am covered there as well. Everything else that is not "HE" is going to find a new home. Well the Wisk "Power Scoop" unscented detergent is sort of low sudsing, and works well on linens, so that will remain. Have about one half bottle of Cheer Free and Gentle laundry liquid, that will finish up by using it in the Hoover twin tub.

When the 5 KG Danby was my daily driver, I was only using 2 - 3 TBSP of Persil, or even less of the Megapearls (and even less than that when using STPP). Since I've had the LG, however, I have begun doing larger loads and thus using more detergent. In fact, I have even dosed a few loads using the "Normal" soiling in "Soft Water" dosing directions on the box of German Persil. Those whites are the WHITEST I have ever seen!

I am considering giving up part of my MEGASTASH of detergents, as I have found my favorite few and want to get rid of those taking up space. I will keep a few of my non-HE detergents in case I bring the F&P back in the house to live next to the LG's. I will be saying "adios" to most of my Mexican detergents, as I have realized that I get MUCH better cleaning with a good Euro detergents with some STPP added separately.

My ultimate favorite would have to be Henkel Persil, followed closely by the UK Persil line, and then finally the UK Ariel line. On loads of colored towels, the Sears Ultra Plus HE works quite well, though I don't typically use in on anything other than towels or rugs.

I just ordered some SA8 with Bioquest, and I can't wait for that to arrive!

Well, the scoop that came with my Persil "megaperls", has about 2 tablespoons as it's lowest level (poured the amount into my old Miele scoop which is marked for 2TBS.

Was reluctant to go lower as that would have decreased the amount of oxygen bleach dosed, IMHO. That would have meant having to add some oxygen bleach to the mix. Also the load was pretty large, and came complete with some rather gross socks from walking without shoes when at family members homes for the holidays. Perhaps will go lower with either smaller loads or experiment to see if 1 TBS would really clean 11lbs of really dirty laundry.

Am really quite surprised as had tried Persil with our first front loader, a Malber. By the time we had the first Miele, had long switched to non-HE detergents because felt there was no difference. Think the thing is the long cycles, which probably gives various components of Persil time to do their thing.

As for my stash, have to say that the Tide "Professional Line In Wash Stain Remover", which is really rebadged Tide HE in another form, does clean quite well and is low sudsing. So that will stay as well.

It really works well, doesn't it?

I found the TWB "High Performance" at Costco and will try it out tomorrow (well, today!)
