Help - what is a dryer cover?

So last night I replaced my thermal fuse on LG electric dryer, (I know I should have done the thermostat too it appears,) and I've got this lose part that must have fell from something - I googled the image but can only come up with a picture and that it's a dryer cover. I checked the part tear down and still am perplexed. Is this thing super important? Is it ok to run the dryer without it?

update -

I found updated picture with better quality. looks like it sits on the back side up top. What's its purpose? I'm not looking forward to taking this back apart but will as needed. Thanks!
