I recently purchased a vintage Hobart Kitchen-Aid KDI-58 Portable Dishwasher since our house does not have a dishwasher installed. I had never seen or used a portable dishwasher before. It worked great for a few weeks with no issues, but eventually a lot of water (5+ inches) started accumulating at the bottom so I don't think it is draining properly. I am not sure if the drain and/or hosing is clogged and cannot confidently identify the drain. Is it the off white colored piece or the light blue one? The clamps that connect the hosing are rusted and feel brittle so I am concerned they may break if I try to remove them. Is this something that could potentially be an easy fix for me or would it be better to try and find someone to work on it. Do appliance repair companies even work on models this old? Thank you in advance for any advice!

First identify the problem

After you run a cycle, is that when you see all the water sitting in the bottom?

Or does it slowly fill with water when you’re not using it? These are too very different problems.

If it’s leaving the water at the end of the cycle, it’s got something blocked in the drain line possibly could be a bad drain valve , unfortunately, the most likely thing is a bad drain impeller, which will require disassembling the pump from the inside and replacing the drain impeller and seal.

A non-draining dishwasher like this is never caused by clogged filter that’s impossible.

If the water is accumulating in the machine between runs, your inlet valve is not shutting off completely. It needs to be rebuilt or replaced.

It should be possible to find repair companies that will still work on this if they’ve got somebody with gray hair that remembers these, they’re not hard to work on

Jambrax555, It's a portable unit so presumably you disconnect it from the water supply (sink faucet) when not running it?

A possible way to test if the inlet valve is at fault is by connecting the dishwasher to the faucet with the water turned on but the dishwasher not running, not plugged in to power.  Bail out or soak-up any visible residual water first.  If water appears in the tub after a period of time, whatever time is typical, then the inlet valve is bad.  The speed at which water appears, minutes or hours, indicates the severity of the valve's leaking/seeping.
