I currently have a 48-49 model that has a plastic handle piece over the chrome and a plastic insert inside the circle.

I am trying to determine if the 46-47 models had the same type of trim deal or were those two pieces of plastic only on the later models with this handle style ?

Anyone know - or have a picture ?

When I was a kid we had an old Kelvy fridge in the basement. It had the tilt-out bin below the refrigerated cabinet. As I recall, it didn't have the circle at all, and no plastic, but the handle mechanism on yours looks very similar.

I don't know if that's any help. Meanwhile, I am hoping to get my hands on a GE combo like yours sometime soon.

GE Combo

rp2813, General Electric is test-marketing a nostalgia TF in Canadian Home Depot stores. I haven't been able to locate the model on our website or GE's, but I have seen pix in our in-house newsletter. It is very similar to the one in this thread.

Interesting info Charlie. What I want to do is replace my early 70's Whirlpool TF that has coils on the bottom. It's a great fridge and very quiet, but it's blowing way too much heat into the laundry room off the condenser. I don't recall this being an issue with the old-school '49 Westinghouse when it was stationed there, so am thinking I need a fridge with that type of mechanical system again, with a GE combo as my dream solution. I will still be interested in finding out more about the retro GE they're trialing, though.

Retro-styled GE Combo

I saw one the last time I was at the Home Depot in Montreal - they look pretty nice for a "modern" fridge. GE is test-marketing in Canada only?? That seems odd - I would have assumed the US market was bigger and would be more attractive to them.

Here Here!

Porcelain interiors rule. After one of the storms that hit my area and knocked out power, my fridges cleaned up great. One of my friend's new model fridges never lost the rotten shrimp smell - even with multiple bleachings and blasting it with one of those ozone air purifiers. It is now the garage beer fridge.
