Dick York

A fine actor who sadly is mainly only remembered for "Bewitched", but had a very good body of work besides.

Sadder still that he ended his days in poverty and almost largely forgotten. Things were so bad at one point Mr. York actually cleaned other persons homes to make money.

Also only recently found out whatever lovey-dovey relationship Elizabeth Montgomery and Dick York had on screen as "Sam and Darrin" the truth was something else. EM apparently didn't care much for DY and tried a few times to have him given the push. When things finally came to a head because of Dick York's frequent missed days let us say Miss. Montgomery wasn't sad to see him go. Read/heard also that when DY telephoned EM a few days before he passed, she hung up on him.

Saw Dick York the other night on an old "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" episode "The Dusty Drawer".

I always liked the newer Darrin better. The original one played by Dick York always looked like a chimpanzee to me. I found it hard to get past that.

And Dick York was all over those "Social Development" films we saw in High School. Most of them were filmed in the mid 50's.

After Bewitched, I noticed that EM went off on some kind of "I am a SERIOUS actress now and demand to be treated as such" kick. When she was done with Bewitched, she was DONE with it!

Interesting film

I see another familar face at about 15:52 on the film. Can't think of her name now, but know what she played in. Does anyone else recognize her?

The Frigidaire refrigerator in the first kitchen is just like the one I have in my basement; it's a '47 model (D-7 I think).

The appliances in the lab kitchen are GE, and the range is pre pushbutton era.

Also saw Franciscan "Apple" pattern china on the table. My dad's aunt & uncle had that. We sold it at the auction after he passed on.

"Ever the Wellesley Woman"

I wondered why the graciousness of the hostess was not extended to Mr. York and the young female visitor, the daughter of one of the invited guests. "It is quite comfortable here". The film was beautiful and well preserved, yet it was a missed opportunity to show how easy it is to manage a couple of unexpected guests with "Beatrice Foods". Reminded me of "Mona Lisa Smile".

"Social Development" Films

Have seen some of those from the 1950's on Youtube. Scary stuff! Everything from what happens to "fast" girls (date rape), unplanned pregnancy to an unmarried girl (see date rape/fast girl), to that "odd older man" always trying to lure little boys or young men into his car....

Talk about a town without pity. *LOL* The overriding theme seemed to be things should be hushed up, and or *those persons* either got what was coming to them and or should be reported to local LE. Oh that and best keep away if you are any sort of decent person.

I'm nearly certain that is Hope Summers that played Clara on Andy Griffith.

A good number of well known performers got their start in industrial films. I rememrer seeing a film put out by Eli Lilly Co. (How Much is a Miracle) that had JoAnn Worley from Laugh-In.

There was some guy that advertised for GE patio kitchens that made it big.

Franciscan Dinnerware

The Franciscan Apple was our "daily driver" growing up, it was a treat to see Maj. Nelson drinking from it. My mom used to have a housecoat just like Endora!

One of my friends dad's was in one of those "health" videos as a kid (with his brother) - I think something about catching colds or something, made in Chicago.
