I was surfin the web tonight looking for an owners manual for an old Modern Maid applaince(the 1979 Modern Maid Cook and Clean unit)and found you're site. Oh my.. I did not relize there was a group of people who collected this stuff.. My jaw hit the desk (must be why i can't type).. That was at 10:00, it's now almost 2 am!!! I have been into aplliances for years and years and years. I wish i could have a collection like some of you all, however, due to budget restrictions, lack of mechanical knowledge and because i have no place to keep anything like this, i can not. I think i would wet my self if i ever got the chance to actually see some of these machines live in person.. My parents have always found it odd that i would have rather had old soap box's as a kid v.s. toy cars and guns.. Or even old owners manuals.. I will chime in where i can and am very excited to join.. Although i currently only have new stuff, i will post pics asap of our stuff and of my special toy, a new Frigidaire affinty F/L.. Oh, my user name refers to my car, which is a Ford "Exploder" (explorer).. Its a great car, but thats the only thing we can think to call him.. Cm

WOW!! Another new member from NC-Welcome to the bunch.I love old machines too!And where I work-Ford Explorers are the company cars!where is Montreat,NC?I am in an area about 80Mi East of Raleigh.Do you like old Vacuums-that is my main thing.

Vaccumes-

Yes and No..
I like some, but not all vintage or older vaccumes..That partially comes from the fact i was allowed to drag them home and keep them as a kid..Until i moved out breifly then mom threw all 22 of them out (i could've killed her).. Fortuntly a neighbor scarfed up most of them and sold them on ebay.. I had a 1940's Kenmore that i found NIB, never used, some young lady traded for a New Kirby.. I worked for Kirby, setting up appointments from ages 16-18.. I got it free.. Also had 2 whirlpool vaccumes, but those are the only ones i can recall.
Montreat is about 30 min. outside of asheville..
I love my explorer.. Has 122K miles and runs like a champ.. But i did have to put a transmisson in it.. I liked so much i whent out and bought a Ranger...

Chad, welcome aboard! I remember Lake Susan, one of the coldest bodies of water in the lower 48 and that tall (to me then)dam. I remember sitting at a table in an eating place when I was around 6 years old talking with the lady who shared the table, and had just met us, and finding out about her Westinghouse Laundry Twins. I think that is one of the true tests of how nice adults are to young children: talking about your laundry equipment with a little kid you just met. Of course, odds were very good that she would never see me again, so she figured the chat would not be repeated.

The biggest problem with appliances in your area is that there is very little flat ground so you are either straining to push them uphill or straining to keep them from rolling, completely out of control, down hill. We visited friends who had a cottage there. Getting up to it from the road involved strenuous climbing. I don't know how they managed to haul even groceries up to it, let alone stuff like furniture. Of course, once I was inside the place, I realized that furniture was the least concern. It was Summer, but they only went out once a day for a meal, then climbed back up, went right to the bathroom and, for the rest of the afternoon, were officially "resting." That was another thing that put me off; Lake Susan was below and in the middle of all of those residences on those hills in that assuredly regular town. I kept thinking about primitive plumbing, rainwater runoff, snow melt etc and that lake down below to catch all of it.

Beside the lady who talked to me about her washer and dryer, the only other semi-pleasant experience of that trip was stopping somewhere between Montreat and Decatur, where we lived, to visit a friend of the friend who was with us. We sat on their screened, side porch and sitting out there against the brick wall of the house was their Westinghouse Dryer, which I was only allowed to look at from my seat; no standing up in the circle of adults to walk over to it or anything. Even when we got up to leave, my mother was right beside me to steer me quickly past this fleck of mica shining in the field of mud that was this trip.

Well if it isn't Chad, nice to see you. So tell us, did you ever find an Owners Manual to a late 50's Whirlpool Combo /SMILES/S1.gif? I remember you were looking for one about six years ago.

Um, Never that i recall was i looking for the books for one of those whirlpool combo, but maybe i was.. I do like them.. I don't have one ... Who knows... That was 6+ years ago..
I have pictures to post... Will get them up asap.. I will also take more pics of the washer tommrow, my camera batterys died.
Lake susan is beautiful.. I have only ever seen her overflow once. They just spent over a million to rebuild the damn. Or is it dam? I can't type or spell...
I hate the hills.. They are quite awful. We live just right outside montreat, and we don't have that many hills, but still. We moved from one house to another (.9 miles to a smaller abode)to downsize because of costs here and it was enough of a pain in the ass. Thats how the washer fell off dads porch. I have fibermyalgia and have a hard time lifting and well it fell off the porch.
Hehehe.. I do have room for a small Skini Mini maybe in my bathroom... I also could possibly stick something where the TV stand is and put the TV on it... Hmmmm....

Ok... My Pitures are up!

My pictrues are up on Yahoo Photos.. I am GreenBean321 (name of my truck, if i had appliances, they'd be named too!)
But i don't know how Yahoo works, some one please explain..I doubt the URL will work.. HELP!!!

You will see a bunch of others too, feel free to look.. You also will see the remains of my beloved Infinti that was demolished by a dumb blonde b*tch putting on F**king lipstick while going 55 m.p.h.. God, i am glad i don't have a wife and i like men...
