This is another one i picked up..It did fire up but it shut down after 10 sec and 2 min later fired again ..any ideas .. Water did not stop 1st time so i took apart the water valve and cleaned it.. that seem to work .. the machine is turquoise, and it had the cleanest lint filter i have ever seen allmost new ..in fact i cant see any ware on machine like it was used maybe 30 times 50 years ago ..wires all like new adjatater came out like a new one.. It needs an electric dryer to match ..I believe it is a 1962….any ideas as to how to proceed on my machines..mark

I had what appears to be the same model with matching dryer before they were lost in the Valley Fire last Sept. Interestingly, my washer had the same issue -- it would start, then shut itself off. After a few tries, it finally wouldn't turn on at all. Never had a chance to figure it out and am wondering if that's an inherent issues with those machines..?

Agitator

That agitator and lint filter are both very hard to come by and sought after by many. I've been looking for several years for an original Bakelite agitator in good condition with no luck at all. Just about the only place one might expect to find one anymore is in another machine such as your Highlander. Based on the lint filter with the built in fabric softener dispenser I'd guess this is a TA502. A nice machine on it's own but also a great source of some hard to find replacement parts for the higher end models. A very nice find.

up date .

It seems to have all the parts ..I have been told the glides on motor may be problem ..??? it has all the parts and is intact .It is pretty clean ..strange story how it could sit for this many years without being worked ..Ill keep trying it out ..maybe a new motor ..the dial pad seems to turn hard ….mk

Damn these are all great machines. If you use the search bar of the this and the super forum to learn anything you wanted on this machine. I have seen many comments on those need to be lubed.

hey bvf/mark...

CONGRATULATIONS!
On such a BEAUTIFUL maytag find! WOWZERS, that turquoise is BEAUTIFUL!!

I bet that lint filter screen is alot easier to clean than the plastic ones? Very nice! And yeah, that is a nice agitator! Are the fins solid to the bottom skirt of the agitator? If so, that would be perfect so strapped items of clothing won't get caught under the slots of the fins!

CONGRATULATIONS again on the GREAT finds! I look forward to seeing them in action!

how many miles

Hi guys I took the back off and I really cant believe how clean it is .. The trans looks like new . The belts were old dry and have a dent in both.. It is as clean as new can be ..I did take all cobwebs off… The trans looks new and everything is old and perfect .. This must have low miles ..here are some pictures , Next ill run the motor with out the belts to see if it is a bad motor.. I did however clean the water valve..

motor

Does the motor turn freely or is it stiff?Judging by the amount of fading on the agitator and the oil leakage on the trans pulley I would say this machine has had some use but not a horrendous amount. You should be able to disassemble that motor, clean and lube the bearings ,clean the points and it should run like new unless the windings are fried and they shouldn't be those are great motors.

thanks

I will try to do this …the motor turn well but its starts to smoke and stink so i turn it off.. Ill take it off and see …It would be great to fix this one … I can only try and see… ill keep everyone posted …Does anybody know the type of motor this will need if I get another ..for a washer machine company said they dont have a clue in arizona on repair… everyone says replace but i dont know…everyone in tucson arizona is so desperate at selling new things they repair nothing…My jeep comander even the dealer cant fix here …arizonas economy is very poor at the moment….thanks for info

MT Washer Motor

If the motor turns freely when off but will not start and run when turned on you may have a bad timer or a wire off at the motor or timer. If the timer just energizes the start winding and not the main winding it will behave this way. When looking at the timer look for poped rivets on the timer contacts, this was a big problem on Mallory timers in the early to mid 60s and will cause problems like this.

up date .

I took the motor off and the belts look original and warped ..With it out then motor ran perfect when i put it on the wash it ran and stopped and ran again this time no smoke ..so at this point only took out and dusted it off ..now when the put it back in the spring only stays all the way in . the may tag belts seem to move it slow when i pulled the motor out somewhat it ran better but would barly adjatate when i let the motor go, it must be the belts or is the spring going the wrong way ..belts are original not cracked but old and have dents in them ..motor is running beautiful for ten min wash cycle and not smoke or hot ..the springs are really good tension ..and i oiled the track ..could i have it backwards ..timer i put oil in the back of it and it seemed to turn better but it is tight compared to the 70s may tags..any ideas guys.

another try

Sorry guys looking at my old pictures i have the motor backwards …Im not all there anymore .Im on my last brain cell and have been fighting cancer and blood problems for years now..so im slow and this was never my business but im learning as i go. maybe ill get it right this time.
