Picked this workhorse up for R75.00!

Gave her a service and a good clean. I'm afraid her fascia was so worn that i decided to rather scrub it all of. rather that than have it flake away bit by bit.

I don't remember seeing any other Hitachi twin tubs on any of the threads. any members who prefer a twin tub over automatic please share your thoughts and pics!!!

That impeller is exactly like the vintage Arno semi automatics we had here in Brazil.

It still available as spare part. It has a lint filter that looks like a cup with a hole in the center.

Water Drama

Hi louis, looks like plenty of splashing going on in the tub!!! what are the switches & buttons for?? is it semi automatic??

The three methods of agitation in our twinnies where: Agitator as in Servis & hotpoint twinnies, and pulsator either in the side / back wall like the Hoovermatics or in the base like the Rolls...

Guys, when the impeller is on the bottom, does it keep spinning one way, and how do the clothes move?

Mike, that RHS impeller looks like the ones on the early dishwashers.

Twin tubs

Thoroughly enjoying my Hitachi and will not hesitate to say that this is by far the most powerful twin tub I've ever used. I have owned at least 20 or more twin tubs some being Hitachi, but for a 25 year old machine that can easily handle the exact amount i usually load my Speed Queen with no problem at all.

Chestermikeuk, thank you for the fascinating pics. I regret the day i gave away my hoovermatic...been pining to have one again, but they seem to be obsolete in SA now i really do hope I get another one to keep!)
Basic explanation for controls as follows:
Three white buttons on the left are for gentle (two way with 6 sec. pauses in between) medium (two way with 3 sec. pauses inbetween and heavy (one way no pause)
then the wash timer and the middle control is drain/wash/on/off and a spin timer.

Mickeyd, the pulsator spins around in one direction for a minute then pauses for a few seconds and spins the opposite direction until the selected time is complete. unless of course you select heavy in which case there will be no pauses and the pulstor will spin non stop until the timer completes.
