Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

It threw stuff around on the bottom rack, but I don't think it did much on the top..she put all the pots n bowls on the bottom, but pre rinsed everything anyways

Magic Chef Dishwasher!!

I am surprised that DW only had 1 spray arm - usually when you saw a D&M model with a few push buttons it was higher end and had 2 spray arms!

The buttons in the " control center " of this model were labeled RINSE N HOLD, and FULL CYCLE...there may have been a Heat/No heat dry button, but yes, ONE wash arm. The house was built with this in 71

When I was going to UT from 1973-1977, there was a very nice apartment complex built around 1970 or 1971 that was a little bit cut above the rest.  Initially I was impressed with the fact the Norge branded D&M dishwasher had buttons for Normal as well as Rinse & Hold.  Then I opened the door and discovered it was a 1-level wonder.

Magic Chef Dishwasher!!

I found this brochure from I think somewhere from 72 - 74 this shows the more TOL model and I think this was the DW filmed on Maude

So the Roto-Rack was unique to Kenmore-branded D&M machines. Robert mentions in Reply #6 above that the Magic Chef-branded machine was from 1971. Interesting!

Also: That little toaster oven in photo #2 in the original post looks like the GE we had around the same time.

Blasts from the past!

The toaster oven was an awesome little guy, I wish they were still made.
The motor on the dw failed in 76, but my step dad replaced it. The seal failed and water got into the bearings. It was still working when the house was sold in 1980.

One of my first supervisors/bosses lived in a house with a TOL Magic Chef dishwasher with the same red Total Magic Wash button.  I also once saw a 1960s Gaffers & Sattler dishwasher with a roto-rack.
