Homemade Ice Cream Without an Ice Cream Freezer

I made some delicious homemade Vanilla Ice Cream today using a recipe I found online.  But it is made in the freezer, rather than using and ice cream freezer.  It uses sweetened condensed milk, whipping cream, vanilla and a dash of salt.  And its super easy to make.

 

I made Hot Fudge Sundae’s tonight for dessert with the ice cream.  Boy what a treat.  This ice cream is very rich so you don’t need a large portion.

I've made a version of that many years ago, it is good!

 

I've got a vintage Simac ice cream maker that I used a fair amount until the pot metal lever that released the bowl from the refrigeration unit broke. Would love to use it again but parts are NLA.

 

That being the case I may give your version a try. My local Krogers is blowing out sweetened condensed milk for $.59 can, picked up a few.

That sounds like the recipe from my Better Homes & Gardens cookbook from the '60s. It also has a chocolate version you make by adding Hershey's Chocolate syrup to the mix. Very creamy & delicious.

Usually for ice cream made in a freezer it is best to use whipped cream, by adding whipped egg whites it makes it even softer and the whipped ingredients fix what is missing in the process that you instead get with a machine so inglobate air/whip.
Also the fat content is crucial to make it soft.
And it comes out similar to what in Italy Is called "semifreddo".

Not an actual ice cream but good any way.
A simple cream one makes a delicious dessert if served with a Cup of espresso to pour over it and make an "affogato".

I have an automatic self freezing ice cream machine.
In the past they sold whipping (mantecare) machines that would work inside the freezer, the thin power cord would not create sealing problems to the gasket.
Very smart way, the others using crushed ice would never work.
Probably they made them even for 120v 60hz.
Cheap, compact and functional vs the self s
freezing costly bulky ones.

And for the Simac maker of yours, not sure where you looked for parts may be NLA in the USA.
But here I am sure you can find them, and if not NOS every so often a broken one comes up for parts.
Hoping tha you do not need the motor or compressor part which over here runs with a different voltage parts are basically the same.

Fully functional older models goes for 30-50...
In the USA they seem to have crazy costs even the ones from early 80s

Thanks - All I need is a bowl release handle, bottom front.  The cast metal crumbled, other than that it works perfectly.

Thanks.  I had the 3d print files somewhere, but was able to find new ones.  I'd like to just buy the part but nothing available, the ebay listing after some translation say no shipment to US.

 

I'll have to find someone to print the item, but it needs to be very sturdy.
