This is very exciting. The Museum of Contemporary art, a magnificent art deco building right on Sydney Harbour, is having a exhibition to celebrate 100 years of Hoover this weekend. I shall be there!

Do you need to drop a subtle hint to your partner, flatmate or children about their questionable cleaning habits? Are you ready to take a step back in time and see the evolution of one of the world’s leading vacuum cleaning specialists?

You and your family are invited to come and celebrate Hoover’s 100th birthday this month, a milestone that is being honoured with a once in a lifetime exhibition in the MCA Foundation Hall at the Museum of Contemporary Art, on Friday, October 31 and Saturday, November 1. This exhibition will showcase this globally recognised and iconic brand since its inception in 1908. It will feature an eclectic selection of Hoover memorabilia and engaging advertising campaigns.

As part of Hoover’s centennial birthday celebration, antique vacuum cleaner specialist Charles Richard Lester will be in Australia for the duration of the exhibition to discuss how the vacuum cleaner has led the revolution in the changing face of housework and technology over the past century. Charles is something of a vacuum-cleaner encyclopaedia with 30 years of vacuum cleaner devotion and fascination. He will be available to offer visitors and media a guided tour and insight into the delights in the mechanical engineering aspect of vacuum cleaners since 1899 when John Thurman invented his gasoline powered vacuum cleaner that some historians consider the first ever motorized vacuum cleaner.
