What are your guy's thought on this vacuum cleaner. The reason I ask is because for the past couple of weeks the local Goodwill has had this vacuum there and nobody seems to be buying it. It looks like it is in decent shape.

I know it's not as vintage as some of the other hoovers that have been discussed here, but it still is pretty neat looking.

a Decade 80 is simply a minor variation on the Convertible series of uprights. very good CARPET cleaners. see that the back wheels are even and in good condition. check that the brushes have good length. there should be NO rust on the agitator. the agitator should turn freely on its bearings. the plastic fans on used vacuums can suffer; check to see that the fan on this one you are looking at looks smooth and uncracked. see that the cord is firmly attached to the handle. the motor should run smoothly with no vibration. unless in like-new condition, i wouldnt pay more than 10 dollars for a used Hoover. Nice vacuum...

The best part is its not 12 amps!
I would suggest you use your best judgement and examine the cleaner in the store. If it looks clean and that maybe all it will need is a wipeoff, buy it.
On the other hand, if its filthy and needs sandblasting, leave it.
If you decide the price is reasonable and you buy it, have it tuned up/serviced at your local vac shop. At that point you'll have $50-60 invested in a good, well made cleaner that will serve you for many years.

Thanks!

Next Saturday, if the cleaner is still there, I give it a looksee and see if it's worth getting. I know physically it looks pretty good except for a couple of scratches and a dirty bumber.

I just felt kind of bad for it. Its just been sitting there for about two weeks now.

Well, everything seemed pretty good witht he vacuum until I plugged it in and turned it on. It made the most horrible screeching noise!

Even for $7 it wasn't worth it to me.

Thanks for all the help though, now I know what to look for in the future.
