I was recently given a Hoover Dial-A-Matic 1140. It is blue, has a height adjuster, and is a non-power drive model. However, the front is kind of discolored from being exposed to the sunlight, and the base is very scratched up. Also, the plug has been replaced (for those of you who don't know me, I am very anal about my cords having the original plugs). This may be a long shot, but do any of you in Applianceville have any of these parts I am looking for, or maybe a complete machine that I could use for parts? Anything would be greatly appreciated.

I have never really cared for the D.A.M's much until now. However, after cleaning this one up and playing with it, I now have a new appreciation for them. I know that the clean air design was unique at the time, and it is now an industry standard. Do any of you vac gurus (maybe Fred or Jeff), know anything else about the Dial-A-Matic line of cleaners, and possibly when mine was made. I am really curious to know.

Evan,
Your model was made 1969-71, and was the MOL model. Its colors are marine blue with seal griege Light/medium/deep. The '69 models were the first ones to have the new T-bar height adjustment, and new sold for $104.95
It matches the model 1070 Convertible in color.
There must have been a batch of these made with the dark brown grip, mine has a light grip. Fred Nelson and Tania both have these with the dark brown grip.
It should not be too hard to find a cord or even a machine for parts.
The Dial-a-Matic line ran from 1963 to 1979
Hope this helps some

Nice DAM, I have seen a few in this color scheme but never picked them up because they were way too beyond repair! You have a nice one there! Does it have attachments? I like the Nilfisk in the photo too. How old is that?

I am a Dial-a-Matic lover!

The dial-a-matic was very revolutionary.

It also had it's flaws. I forgive these flaws, because it was a very different type of vacuum. The idea was dead-on.

They clean great. Everytime I use one of mine I am always impressed!
