Hi all, well i picked up this Hoover new wave for just 99p.Oh i do love bargains. It needed new brushes in the motor and requires the door gasket replacing but that can wait for a bit. I've used a Hoover Classica before which is similar but this has a few differences like the amazing spin wash, and it has a spin balance sensor which the Classica didn't and shook all over the place. It cleans really well and although quite noisy is great fun to use. The inside of the machine shows just how well engineered this is with a Miele style ball valve to stop detergent going straight into the pump and lots of sensors everywhere. The suspension is very good too!
It's a 1996 model which is the updated new wave model with lower water levels than previous ones. Enjoy!

Great spin sounds

I like the cheeky little first spin ! This has real classic Hoover sounds doesn't it - the `whoa' from distribute and the deceleration before acceleration - she is a temptress indeed and a fine machine. Comgratulations on your purchase sir.

I had a 1995 Soft Wave and I thought it was pants - the heating was badly programmed, the rinsing inadequate and the spinning sometimes violently unbalanced. The two fun things about it were the `over the door' fill (from the minute you flipped down a chunky `on' switch the water and powder etc just cascaded down the front of the door) and a max spin speed from distribute, after a couple of little spins to rid the bulk of the water.

I also looked at your Servis again and I really think the very start of the spin sounds remarkably similar to the old Hotpoint still sat in the garage waiting for me to buy it spares.
At the very start of the spin, the motor seems to make a lot of `whoeee' noise but not to much effect, it then picks up speed properly a second or two later. Does anyone know....is this just like the initital burst of power which initiates spin, or is it a sort of primitive balance checker before revving up? Or perhaps I'm alone and think about these things way too much...sorry for the crap description. The Hoovers don't seem to do this, I've only noticed it with that Servis of yours and my Hotpoint.

I'll get the '79 Hottie restored in the summer holidays and get some video up, if `she who must be obeyed' allows me out to the garage to play.

Yes Nick i belive the initial noise on the Servis and Hotpoint is the initial burst of spin, there's no balance checker. They share the same motor. Alot of people i think give up if they've got an old quartz if the motor goes not realizing there are an abundance of Hotpoint motors and brushes out there for it and plenty of other parts if you know who to call. I've had a replacement powder drawer front and a door glass no problem recently. Your right about the powder coming down the front when the Hoover fills. its quite good. I was suprised the new wave had a spin balance sensor as i expected it to be the same as the Classica/softwave which shakes n jumps violently across the kitchen sometimes.
I also am suprised how cheap the parts are for these machines.
I hope you manage to get your ol Hottie restored, i'd like to see that running.

Hey Steve,
loooooved those videos. I really really miss my newwave. *sigh* mine was broken from the minute i bought it off ebay RECONDITIONED!!!!!!!! grr. i replaced the heating element, & the brushes. but the only reason i got rid of it was because from the moment i bought it it didnt do 1300rpm. which is really annoyin noin you have the capability but arent able to use it. it would've made no end of difference to the drying times. grr! as u can tel im still bitter lol.

well the first difference i've noted from mine is the lower rinse water level...i liked how hoover used to say they didnt compromise on rinsing.they were on my level! lol. now they're candy efforts use so little to rinse its untrue.

hmm now i'm all hoovered up i want to fix my logic!!

thanks for sharing!

D

ps thort i'd share a pic of my 94 newwave washerdryer

Thats so cool. Loved the videos with the Servis machine too. By the way, have you seen my videos at youtube? When the vacation is over, more and more clips will follow from me. The difference is that i send them to youtube and you use putfile, but that doesnt matter so much really. The important thing is we people share what we love, cause´ i think we are pretty alone in bering interrested in washing machines.

The Servis was sold here in sweden in the 80´s but not under the name Servis. When back to job i can maybe try to do some research what the name was.
