I found this at the village today along with numerous packages of genuine Hoover bags with it. Plugged it in and it works fab albeit with that noisy Hoover sound. It's in surprisingly good shape too, just the normal scuffing around the edges. Ben's giving it two paws up.

I used this vac around the house this evening and like my similar PowerMax it's an excellent carpet cleaner. None of Ben and Parkers black hair escapes it on one pass. I like that is has a cord retract too. These are great vacs for daily use if you see one available on the cheap.
The other day I stopped in at our local Zellers (walmartish) and they had the Hoover Windtunnel bagged, non self propelled selling for $110 Cdn.. with a further 15% off. I was tempted but overcame it. I noticed that all the new Hoovers seem to be dropping in price substantially around here.

Hoover Concept One

Pete,
In the USA that was model U3101, introduced late 1978. It was the top model Concept and had all the deluxe features including, cord rewind, twin headlamps, and the chrome handle. Congrats on finding a first generation Concept, as in my opinion they were the best of the bunch.
I recommend replacing the brushes and belts, and greasing the agitator bearings, and you will have one excellent vacuum cleaner.

Hi Jeff, thanks for dating it. I just checked and it is indeed a U3101. This one was made by Hoover in their Burlington Ontario plant. Burlington adjoins Hamilton which was the original plant till they built the new one there.
The brushes look to be in good shape still, and it has a metal brushroll with the beater/stiffeners.
As always, ici on voir les instructiones en Francais sur la machine.

wow, a BI Hoover

Lingual that is...
Pete, thats one nice machine, and as a run cleaner can't be beat.
How's the handle grip slide? sticky or smooth?

The handgrip is very smooth thank-you very much LOL

BTW I just came in the door with a green Elux 89, a couple of minor dents I can probably hammer out, the green hose is a little yukky and no attachments,,yet, but it runs quiet and smooth.. do you know when this model debuted?
