Hoover Tumble Dryer

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Very cool, perhaps some family returned to the UK after a spell in SA, shipping the contents of their house back to dear old Blighty, when the natives got a bit too restless...

There was a Hoover plant in SA, opened in 1963ish, there's a period Hoover promo film that mentions it as newly built on archive.org.

The only other SA built Hoover I've seen was a U4006 - looked identical to the UK U4002 Senior Ranger, but with the older style handgrip.

Electric rail traction? Hope to visit the preserved Ballater battery-electric multiple unit next time I'm over the border!

Paul...

Do you collect your next machine yet? I'm a little eager since you collect all that rare stuff. Nice dryer Gary, I have an interest in railways too. My favourite train is an Electra, but it's a different one, the Class 91 ECML train.

James.

Yep Simon!

You mention Al's U4006 that was one of his recent ebay purchases! I had forgotten that - will have to ask him where it was built and whether it has a more usual Hoover ratings plate.

The Ballater BEMU used to be based at my local preserved railway - the East Lancashire Railway. Saw it many times, but it was painted in the Derby Railway Techinical Centre livery at the time.

Hi James.

Yep did collect and will unveil soon - though it has been seen before on discuss o mat.

Hoover 4006

Paul is correct in what he says, I do have a SA built cleaner and as Simon says its is very like the 4002 ranger. As I recall (the ad has dropped off my feedback) the seller (Dr Hoover - regular seller of vintage cleaners, I think he has had more money from me than any other ebay seller - worth it though) said that in order to get around the export restrictions while the apartheid regime was in power, kits of some parts where sent for assembly in SA with some locally sourced components. It had a shake out bag and spring (rather than spring loaded clip) - don't remember the handgrip etc. Perhaps some of our SA members can shed some light on the dryer

Nice machine, but made in South Africa, thought all Hoovers

..and lets not forget that there was a very productive Hoover plant at Meadowbank in Sydney for about 35years...until about 2000.

- washers (top, front load and twin tubs)
- dryers
- vacuum cleaners....

...and probably other items I don't know about.

I’m lost on the trains; my step dad has a Hornby 00 layout in his special hideout, big shed out side plus he has G scale garden layout all round the shed and garden.
Typical warm Sunday afternoon, the sound of trains from the shed and washing machines from the garage.
