Hoover twinnie drain valve questions

Hi all,

Hope someone can help me - I've just got my first Hoover twin tub, but when I try to fill the washtub with the valve on 'wash/spin', the water gets through the valve on the pump and ends up filling both tubs!

I've ordered a spare valve for it, but can't figure out how to get the top of the pump body off. I presume that the metal 'hoop' swings off from the top of the pump, but didn't want to push it in case I cracked the top of the pump housing. Also, how on earth do you remove the pump from the mount? The three screws that hold it in place won't come out all the way as the pump pulley is in the way.

Can anyone help me? The machine worked perfectly first time, and I want to be able to use it again!

Hi Simon, Congratulations on getting your twinny, What model is it??

Sounds like its half open, could be icky with lime build up, if the pump is genuine and not leaking, try filling the wash tub with a solution of lime away descaler etc... and leave it soaking, the water will flush through the wash/ spin drain areas and will descale the pump, with the solution doing its job turn the pump vale left to right a number times to make sure it gets around all the parts...

Then try again, if you do need to change the valve you are right in thinking that large clip needs to snap off, do it with a towel over in case it shoots off...if you need to repair the pump take it out with the pulley attached...

I hadn't thought about limescale, but this is a hard water area, and the machine has led a busy life, although judging by the thick layer of dust on the outer hoses, it hasn't been used for a long time! I wil nip out to get some vinegar shortly to tip into the pump.

It's a Hoovermatic Deluxe 3314L - I have wanted one for such a long time, but all Hoovermatics seem to be quite rare down south nowadays. It was fine on the first wash though, and I love the auto rinse and the lack of interlock... we had a Hotpoint twinnie as our regular machine a few years back, and waiting for the interlock to release before you could hose the load down was a real pain.

It (and myself) are at my mum's at the moment, I have to work on my other half so that I can take it home with me! Although if I kept it here, it would be a good excuse to see my family more often!
