Hi.

My Hotpoint 9605 has recently stopped heating. I just wondered could it be the heater, thermostat or a loose wire.

Cheers.

Hi Paul

It could be a few things. Is the machine just sticking on the heat phase of the cycle or is it moving on? The economy switch could be faulty and the contacts have jammed in the on position. You would only get around 6 mins of heating normally when this is pressed but if the machine is sticking on the heat phase then you can rule the switch out.

These models use a thermistor linked to a temperature control module in the console so it could be either of these. You might be able to tell from the sensed fill - if its not doing that on programmes 4, 5 and 6 then it is likely to be one of these. I'm sure you have it but I've attached the description of the temp sensed fill for you to check against.

Could also be the boil dry protector in the heater well. If you have a multimeter you could check to make sure it is not open circuit. Generally if the actual element fails then it will short to earth and trip your electrics but that is not always the case.

good luck
Steve
