I just taken the plunge and bought my first twin tub, been wanting to get one for years but never had the room, just moved house so this is my house warming gift to myself! Picked this one up on ebay can't wait to get it home and get washing. No user manual with it so any information would be great.

Me and Rob own a later 9410 supermatic de luxe, although we havent really used it yet - must have a go before the winter kicks in (yep before you know it it will be here!).
The 14770.
Your machine was built in the early 1980s and ran alongside the silver facia hotpoint fronloaders.
It is the standard machine, with the 14790 the de luxe version.
can wait to see some piccies of it, when you get your hands on it.
Below is the 14770, taken from the autumn/winter KAYS catalogue from 1982.

Hi Keith
My Mum had that machine from 1981/2 until 87 and it saw a lot of use. I used to do the weekly wash most of the time. You say the machine is missing the user manual. It is a very simple machine to use. It has "set and forget" controls so basically once you have filled the machine to the line indicated on the side of the wash tub ( depending on wash size) and added the detergent ( ensuring it has disolved )turn the heater dial to the desired temp and the wash dial to the time you want and once the water is heated the machine buzzes and the wash action starts.
"warm" is 40 deg
"hot" is 50 deg
And "V Hot" is 60 deg
Try and buy a pair of laundry tongs it makes transfering the wash to the spinner so much easier and you'll avoid scalds and filling your marigolds with water!

Thanks for the info everyone, collecting the machine early September so will keep you updated how it goes. The seller has tested it and said it seems to be working fine, however it has been not been used for a few years. I will give it the once over before first use but is their anything in particular that I should be on the look out for with this type? My mum had one of these in the early 80's and I still have happy memories of it working away. In fact my mother must have had a death wish for all the twin tubs she had from my memory she destroyed a hotpoint countess (single tub with wringer), hotpoint supermatic, service supertwin and finally a hoovermatic so she tried and destroyed them all. Modern automatics seem to suffer the same fate with her!

A tip hotpoint supermatic deluxe
Just a tip to make your spin tub last, to get the best results from the spin. Dont stuff all the clothes in the tub, handle each one starting with the heaviest 1st to the lightest. eg say your doing 3 bath towels put each bath towel in the spin tub 1st then say you washed 3 tea towels put each towel on top of the bath towels in 1 at a time. Push the load down not to hard, now put the rubber mat on and spin away.
