WM72N

The customers house that we removed it from said that she heard a loud pop from it then the door wouldn't open. So she purchased a new Hotpoint WML540P Aquarius from our shop.

So i took it home & hoped that it was just a faulty door interlock. Yes the interlock had burned out, but it has blown one of the modules.

Out of all the WM Hotpoint models this Ultima is my favourite. The programming of this machine is by far the best. I love all the features & especially the profile spin sequence.

Hi Craig.

Superb looking machine and in excellent condition. Obviously very well cared for by its previous owner.

Fingers crossed that you will be preserving this machine as a restoration job? Surely waaayyyyyyy too good to scrap.

Paul

The machine is in tip top showroom condition so i really want to keep it & get it working again, but i would like a bit of advice. I have fitted a new door interlock & the infobubble display shows the selected programe that's fine, if i select a spin only programme it works perfectly fine but if i select a wash programme it displays a E30 fault code. I have checked the other circuit boards & they look fine. Do you think it's safe for me just to replace the one faulty circuit board. I'm 90% sure the burned out door interlock caused the circuit board to fail.

Optima...

Lovely machine, I have a WD62N which I adore. From the last classic Hotpoint range before everything went downhill with WMA's etc.

Don't order a new module, you can see that door interlock has blown a track on the circuit board, just re-solder and it will work perfectly. If you want to have the machine in original condition, take that FHP motor out and put a GDA one in if you have one spare.

James,

I was up till 2am doing exactly that, because where the board has blow i thought i could just solder it back, but after doing all that what is happening is the cold solenoid valve just stays on all the time even when u haven't selected a programme' but the error code does not come on now so i guess something on the board has gone, & i'm quite happy with the FHP motor it sounds so much quieter on the spin compared to my current washer. Plus i don't think a GE motor were on these 1200 spin digital models.

James,

I might be wrong but i think the ultima WM72 1200 & the WM74 1400 spin machines had different motors in them. Unless i've got one of the very last WM machines before the new WMA models were introduced, because the last few Creda W100FW/W120VW machines also had FHP motors in them.

FHP Motor...

Optima I believe you may be correct as my WM43 Ultima 1400 from the previous range had an FHP motor I was unsure if this was a replacement motor as it had a repair sticker on it!

Darren

Hi guys,

I still think GDA's were still fitted to these right up until at least 2000. FHP motors were a product of Indesit and Hotpoint wasn't owned by Indesit until 2002. I think I can confirm this in my WD51-72 service manuals. Jacob your WDM will date from at least 2002 under Indesit ownership. Expect an FHP motor and some more Indesit parts like pumps etc.

I have been waiting 11 days for the power boards to be repaired, so i phoned the company up on monday & they said that they were beyond repair so they have sent me some replacement boards at no extra cost. I will be fitting them tomorrow so i will keep you updated on it.

Oh & thank you Rob for your help.

Hotpoint WM72

We had this excact machine up to a few years ago when the bearings failed. I replaced the bearings in it to find the heater eliment went short circuit straight as i tried to use it and it blew all the electronics up in it, so sadly it had to go. They were brilliant machines...

I'm not having much luck

Well i have re-fitted the replacement boards it took me all of 10 minutes a very easy job to do as long as you know where all the wires go, luckily i took a few pictures of the circuitry before hand. I gave it a try last night & it's filling with water, tumbling & heating to the correct temperature, i was in heaven watching it! Now for the bad news it's not pumping out the water, after so long 'E15 check the drainage hose' comes up on the info bubble display. The pump was working fine before the new boards went in but now it's totally dead. So now i guess there is a problem with the replacement boards. I'm getting really frustrated with it now. Luckily the boards are guaranteed for 12 months. I just want to get it working again, but i was not expecting this to happen. I have waited this long to get it working so i'm not gonna give up on it now!
