So the apartment complex that I live in has a big roll off dumpster in the corner of the lot. The maintenance people use it as they renovate the apartments. It’s fairly common to see appliances in there, they are usually the builders grade units that have been a lot of use so nothing too interesting there. However tonight I went by, totally minding my own business when I seen what appeared from a distance to be a portable dishwasher. Now this is odd since all the units here have built ins, but I went over to inspect and there was a newer power clean portable, in rather good shape just sitting there. I didn’t need the Ultra Wash when I got it, and certainly no more but it was free and basically home so I quickly rescued it and brought it up. It looks like the previous owners where going to use it and then changed their mind. It had some soiling in the bottom and detergent cup was closed with a pod in it. Of course, they had to be barbarians and cut the drain line instead of taking off the clamp. Other than that, the only issue I’ve found so far is the inlet screened was Gunked up with crud. Also the silverware basket seems to be missing. I swear it was in there when I first looked at it but who knows.

I’ll probably clean it up, use it a few times and sell it for a nice little profit here. But either way this ol gal has a lot more life left in her.

Dead weight…

I was initially surprised that it just as heavy as the porcelain tank Ultra Wash, until I flipped it over. Whirlpool was kind enough to install a cinder block in the bottom to keep it from floating way. However the bottom panel seems to made entirely of plastic… I know the Ultra Wash has a bad caster, but this one does roll ever so nice across the floor.

The counter balancing makes sense, but my Ultra Wash portable and Maytag Reverse rack portable do not have any counter balance installed. Of course both of those machines use a lot more steel and lot less plastic. I will say the plastic tub seems to be quieter.
