I was helping an old lady clear out her basement and this full jug of Downy was going in the garbage. She said he hubby didn't like the smell. I find that hard to believe since he is a pig farmer? I brought the bottle home. The first wiff, I thought it smelled like old lady perfume? After shaking it up, the smell came back.
My mom would never buy Downy unless I snuck it into the cart. She said Downy and Fleecy were too expensive. She always bought, Rain Barrel.

How old are Downy's balls?

Any idea how old this stuff is? The copy right date on the bottom of the jug is 1969. I haven't seen directions for wringers and twin tubs for a long time.

Downy's balls went from soft and flexable to todays hard ones. And Downy's balls were free! All you had to do was write in and ask for them.(For top-loading automatics only).

I did four loads of laundry and the smell is fantastic. Vintage Downy has such a soft, clean smell.Mix that with fresh, cold March air and the sheets smell wonderful.

I remember

Downy balls from my childhood. We tried one around 1967. I liked it, Ma was not too enthusiastic. She would rather try to listen to the machine and go downstairs, or reset the rinse cycle entirely. I think fiddling with the closure of the ball was annoying to her.

Today's "April Fresh" is nothing of the sort.
