That Part of NYS Isn't Around The Corner From Most Of Us
Locals! *LOL*
Imagine those from upstate and or even across the border *may* have gone. That and those within <three hour drive or so.
With estate sales it is always a gamble IMHO which puts one off driving long distance. You don't know prices do you? Also what will or will not be there when you arrive. That is unless you plan on getting there very early in order to be one of the first shoppers.
Finally you really just don't know who you are dealing with when it comes to estate/garage sales. Some persons are reasonable others will not listen to any such thing on that score and are convinced their price (no matter how outrageous) is right.
For instance last year there was an estate sale in NJ featuring some interesting things including a vintage combo machine. IIRC a member did go but the sellers wanted an amount that was out of line for an untested and a unit that would certainly need work.
My favourite story came from a member years ago that went to an estate sale and was not only scolded but thrown out by the seller. His crime? The guy saw some vintage cleaning/laundry products and after being shot down upon asking for a price (they are spoken for said the seller), found another stash and then got the full treatment (I told you THEY ARE SPOKEN FOR....)
Think many running such sales in remote or whatever areas just do not understand they are otherwise selling to a local market. Unless what they have is very rare a large appliance for instance simply isn't going to move for more than a few bucks IMHO. OTOH if we were speaking of a NOS, still crated W&D such as vintage Frigidaire things might be different.
