My best friend is trying to remember the brand/type of a frozen round chocolate layer cake he had as a kid of the 70's. He's remembering a round layer cake with white cream frosting, cream peaks on the top of the cake with a chocolate drizzle. Not sure if this was Sara Lee, Pepperidge Farm -- or something else! Any ideas? Would be something available in the CT/NY area. Thanks as always! :-)

Maybe Dressel?

Im located in NYS and as a boy we would sometimes have a Dressel brand frozen cake on my birthday. I seem to remember it always being the same one with the sides of the cake being thickly covered with rainbow sprinkles that were really embedded in the icing. The cake was not chocolate though. It was yellow with strawberry filing if I recall correctly. From info I found online Dressel was located in Cicero, IL. But at some point their products were available nationwide. The coupon shows different products. One cake shown is chocolate with chocolate drizzle. The coupon is from May 1975.

Dairy Queen .....

had a round chocolate layer cake with white cream frosting with "dots" on top and a chocolate drizzle. When I say dots, they were like peaks, but you could tell they were applied by a machine that grouped them tightly together. Each one was about the size of a dime in diameter and pulled up to make a peak. Mom used to buy this cake from DQ and it came frozen in a big white box with the red dq logo. Does DQ still sell cakes? Have no idea ...... haven't been back since they discontinued the "Tropical" blizzard. Banana, coconut and pecans blizzard ..... due to allergy restrictions police.

Entenmann's

How about Entenmann's? Growing up in NJ and spending lots of time with relatives in SE NY State and SE PA their cakes were a common site on the table.
