I had always wanted to teach Jack to *shake*, and I did try when he was a puppy, and all I got back was attitude. Jack never much cared to have me touch his paws, and more than once I had sharp little puppy teeth sank into my hand...

So I gave up...

This past fall I made a passing comment to Michael about wanting Jack to shake, Symmone will, Jack would not. Michael suggested I be persistent, so I was, and both of us worked and begged Jack GIVE ME YOUR PAW!!
Finally the other night he did, and now he's doing it almost every time we ask him to.
Now both dogs will *shake* for their treats!
The following was captured on video earlier tonight, I am so proud of my little boy!
He's a little ham for the camera too!

Yay! Nice video---although I thought the intended humor, when the camera panned to your other dog, was "OK, now we're going to try to teach this one to do it." Lo and behold, she was already adept at shaking! Both your babies rank very high on the cute scale.

Thanks guys!

Jack has always been a very independent(stubborn) dog. He learned some basics as a pup, sit, stay, speak...but he never would go for SHAKE!
Symmone on the other hand has a whole regimen of tricks she can do, including balancing a treat on her nose and leaving it there until we say OK...
Jack will never go for that one!

Thanks Robert and Doug...

We're working on the next trick now, namely balancing a treat on Jack's snout, and having him hold it there until we say "OK"

So far, he's doing ok, but can't flip the treat up and catch it like Symmone does.

Proud Papa...

Thanks for sharing Jeff. And, congrats on a job well done. Jack and Symmone are such sweet dogs--well behaved and friendly. You and Michael are also lucky they get along so well.

Sounds like you, Michael, Tania, Fred and Mike R. had a great weekend of vacuum fun too.

yes

Jack and Symmone are very sweet, loving dogs, and we are lucky they get along so well, and can be in either of our houses without any worries of chewing or accidents.
I don't know if or how dogs can communicate with each other, but you can definitely tell that Jack and Symmone adore each other.

Mike B. - Yes we had an awesome time with Fred and Tania last night, even the sub zero temps outside did not phase us one bit. The warehouse was a blast too! We spent about an hour there, but really only scratched the surface... many more treasures await discovery there!
