Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Fair enough. I do think it'll kick about for a while but not for 20odd years, though from what i'm hearing from friends a few mieles won't either!

Anywhoo.

Liam: Indeed the indesit/hotpoints have some fun programming. eg the nice long main wash tumbles, the distributions during the rinses. But...they are/were hugely let down by the sh*t quality the poor suspension & balancing or lack of..the oob control just threw things more and more out of control then once the suspension went it took longer and longer and longer.

Having said that i've heard there improving abit. my other halfs parents have a indesit WIL163 which i used when we looked after there house for a couple weeks and it didn't faff about for half the time my WT960 did.

Mark: That haier you had reminds me of the terrible Samsung i bought. 1200 6kg with the cool oval door. I sold it two weeks after i bought it. Every programme seemed the same Low water levels, and spins after the wash and during the rinses on every programme including delicates. And it would forever abort the spin or spin at 800. I think i saw it spin at 1200 twice in the time i owned it. The first being when i ran it empty on maintainance wash!

Best of luck repairing the electron i'm sure you'll manage it!

Thanks guys

Bertrum - I will probably end up keeping this machine as im very impressed with it. I had forgotten how good they were as it's been a long time since I had an Energy Control Electron.

Hi Liam!

I didn't realise it was you either who purchased some of my brochures. Really pleased they have gone to a good home. You are correct with the cosmetic condition of the Electron. It's great for it's age. It even still had the plastic on the silver door surround but I did take it off as it had yellowed and was torn in places and looking a bit manky. It still has the few tell tale signs of the age as the chrome has gone a bit funny in places.
It has obviously been well looked after by someone. Thankfully there are no signs of coin damage to the inner drum which is always a bonus. The only manky thing is the door seal as I don't think the machine had been used for some time and the door had been shut and so the door seal has lots of mould staining which as we all know is a complete bugger to get off as it gets ingrained in the rubber. It's a bit better than it was after treating it with bleach but it will need replacing as it's the original door seal! It does not leak yet but the water is gettin past where it should as it's not giving a proper seal anymore.
I havn't been keeping up with my youtube viewing as I currently have no sound so videos are not fun at the mo. I know what you mean about the wool wash on most machines. I always wondered how on earth jumpers were going to get to clean with hardly any movement of the drum. I do like the new way to wash wollens as I think it's much more effective.

The Haier was rediculous with spinning and wash times. Water levels were pretty good but the wash times and the out of balance spinning drove me mad. After the machine had eventually finished you would be met with the unbalanced load error message and then you had to reset to spin and wait another who knows how long for it just to bloody spin!

Hotpoint Inlet Valves

Hello Mark

I think i used a Hoover one and the mounting holes were 90 degrees out (instead of being at 6 & 12 oclock positions they were at 9 & 3 oclock positions or visa versa) but it does fit and work.

Door rubber should be no problem to get, i am glad you are enjoying this machine and want to keep it, it is in my opinion a real washing machine and has a pedigree

Lovely machine Mark

Again I am shocked that something so tidy was taken to the tip!

Still, I suppose we shouldnt criticise too much, as the previous owners got at least 22 years out of it. Just upsetting that they let it go, for a relatively simple repair given time and a bit of money and effort.

Keep her going Mark.

Paul
