I agree.

Maytag Farms cheese is great. The boss gives each of us a wheel as part of a Christmas gift. You gotta get some! They also make other kinds as well...

I've never seen it anywhere here in California. Unless it's sold at specialty shops and not grocery stores. I'm going to venture around town this week and see if I can find some.

I've seen it in stores here, but can't remember which ones.  Probably small chains and specialty grocers.  In the Bay Area you might find it at Lunardi's, Draeger's or Andronico's.  Berkeley Bowl could be another candidate but I'm pretty sure they only have a single location in their namesake town.

Maybe if you call MDF they can tell you the retailers in your area that carry it.

There are limestone caves around Newton where they used to age this. I used to see ads for the cheese in old, old magazines, sometimes at the bottom of the ads for the wringer washers and othertimes in little ads at the back where the ads were only one column wide. I am strictly a sharp Cheddar, I mean Chester, person.

I loved blue cheese until I found out I was allergic to it, I got cold like allergy symptoms (runny/stuffy nose, sneezing) I am highly allergic to mold, but for some reason, it never occured to me that blue cheese is um..... moldy! I now avoid it (and all other "moldy" cheese).

It's MAGNIFICENT,

and until I became lactose intolerant, there was always some in my fridge! Their cheddar is very good, as well.

Yes, "specialty" stores carry it. I would imagine that Corti Bros in Sacramento might have it, and Treasure Island in Chicagoland. Here, West Point Market carries it.

Back in the service department of the appliance store where I worked the guy in the parts department, Walter, was sort of a semi-crusty old man who was always eating stinky cheese at lunch time (not Maytag.) Every year he'd put together an order for Maytag Blue Cheese even though the store did not sell Maytag. As a teenager I liked blue cheese and would order a big wheel mainly because I thought they were kind of neat. The cheese may be the same today but the prices sure aren't! They are much more expensive. The cows must have joined a union.

Appetizer

At Columbus' Cap City Diner you can order this Maytag Blue Cheese Chips appetizer. It's yummy and can be easily shared by three or four people.

You're funny, Ralph!

You're also telling the truth. You forgot a couple of things, tho. It would come damaged in the package and half the time the wrong cheese would be in the right package...

I'm not certain if Whirlpool got its hands on the Maytag Farms. Did it become its own identity?

Two Logos

When I first saw this thread, a different image of the Maytag logo came to mind than the one that's commonly associated with MDF.  I found a picture of it on line.  This is the logo I remember seeing in the grocery store.  I love the "Care and Serving" tips, which carry an appliance theme even though the dairy farm was an entirely separate operation.
