I finally found a REAL Maytag repairman

My very first post here was to my LA511 has a rat a tat sound. Several members welcomed me, gave me the part number I need and I thought I'll get to it. The last load I did in it made so much noise that I said this is enough. I did a local search and low and behold, the grandson of the dealer I originally bought it from is still in business, but not as a Maytag dealer. So, last Friday I stopped in there and they obviously just had a huge shipment of off the grid gas stoves that run on batteries for the ignition and that is what their big thing is. I happened to meet the grandson and he knew exactly what it was and he ordered the motor bearing pulley and could come fix it Monday. He showed up and had the pulley on, new belts and a good going over plus helped me replace the dryer hose in about 15 minutes. He told me dont ever get rid of this washer as you will never get a new one as good as it. He told me every chance he can find an old Maytag, he will refurbish it and it will fly out his door. A Real Maytag Repair Person

Glad you got this fixed, MT back in the 80s used a cheaper to build motor pulley to cut costs, they pretty quickly went back to a better solid metal pump drive pulley instead of the cheaper to build stamped steel one. Some of these cheaper pulleys started to fail in just a few years but in most machines they lasted many years before  starting to loosen and make noise.

 

Glad you found someone to fix your machine, there are actually great repair people almost everywhere in this great country if one just does a little research to find them. Appliance repair satisfaction is seldom good if you call the big factory services for older appliances [ usually machines over about 10 years old ]

Yes, mine had the cheaper pulley and he showed me the difference between the new solid one and how the old one had failed. I am running it right now and it is just as quiet as the day I got it 32 years ago.
